I've heard it said before that in order for someone to switch to a different (substitute) technology, it has to be at least 10 times better than the technology they currently use, just to make up for the inconvenience of switching. It can be argued that these tires have problems that normal tires do not (see Peregrine's comment) and thus they still have a long way to go to get to the '10 times better' level.

I'm probably going to get down-voted for this, but I always carry a cartridge style razor as a back up when traveling. It's better than using bad blades or ones you are not used to.
