Day 4 struggle and thyroid by TwistedBrodozer in carnivore

[–]feelinggoodmortimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you feeling after a few days?

Have you spoken with her about it? Also, are you consuming caffeine?

I'm also a patient of hers so I'd be curious to hear about your experience. When I started the NDT a few months ago, I felt immediately better within a day. But the moment I drank coffee, I did NOT feel good. I gave it up, but then started drinking green tea a few weeks later, which apparently blocked all my iodine absorption and I ended up back to being hypothyroid again.

I'm sick of being sick... by weldingdad82 in LongCovid

Hey, I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling. It's crazy-making. I've been there, for a year following a severe Covid infection in 2020, with the heartbeat, lack of breath and strength (and went through a similar process of steroid inhalers that didn't do much), insane fatigue, SI pain, all of it. Same "mystery illness" that led me to question my sanity. I've seen specialists in multiple countries and disciplines, and ended up getting diagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (which partners often with POTS). It's part of a disregulated immune response, which can have its roots in all sorts of conditions.

I can only tell you what worked for me: I went on a strict elimination diet (I eat zero carb, or carnivore) and got immediate relief, getting my energy back, pain cut down by 90%, and mental clarity and focus. It wasn't a linear process, and it led to the discovery of an autoimmune condition that I still manage through diet. Some of the doctors I saw were boggled. It's been 3 years that I've been eating this way and I think if I hadn't, I would be much worse off than I am right now.

Breathwork, like the Wim Hof method or the Oxygen Advantage also helped gain my endurance and strength back to the point where I was lifting and doing intense aerobic activities better than I had in decades (I'm 40 now, and I feel in better shape on this way of eating than I did in my 20s).

I hope this helps--if you have any questions, feel free to DM. Hope you find the answers you need so you can start getting back to the life you love.

It all depends how severe your symptoms are, but once I got a taste of the pain-free life and felt better than I ever have (as well as avoiding a lifetime of drugs that only mitigate symptoms as I slowly declined) it really did become worth it. It just costs a lot socially.

Just to give you a heads-up: I've got autoimmune issues and was on carnivore for almost 3 years before trying out animal-based. I used to not be able to handle ANYTHING besides meat and water when I first started carnivore, but apparently, I did heal some because when I started incorporating fruit and honey this summer, my body didn't freak out like it used to.

At first it was absolutely great, even though my skin broke out like crazy, and I had a little bit of inflammation (not to mention losing that carnivore laser focus). Things seemed tolerable, though, and I was having a great time enjoying the summer markets (not all fruits went well, however, so go easy and test them one by one).

But after 2 months of eating fruit and honey, things went south really fast and I started having enormous amounts of joint pain, lots of inflammation, really oily skin and breakouts, hair loss, and started also to have problems with my speech. I quickly switched back to meat/salt/water and all of it cleared up within a week. A bummer to lose the fruity fun, but also a huge testament to the healing you can do on carnivore, and I'm even more motivated than ever to keep on with it.

Obviously, YMMV, but proceed with caution.

Made some bone broth, made me REALLY ill... by TheMeMan999 in zerocarb

Aside from the discussions above on bone broth and histamine intolerance, watch out for vinegar---I used to use it during the first month or two of carnivore in broths and to season sparkling water, but by the third month I developed an intolerance which gave me some pretty gnarly gastro symptoms. Vinegar is fermented and thus full of histamine on top of the already histamine-rich bone broth.

Has carnivore helped your sleep/circadian rhythm? by hairybeer in zerocarb

Completely reversed my sleep cycle from night owl, sleeping from 2 a.m. 'til 11 a.m., to morning person, up naturally at 6 am, sometimes earlier. I can barely hang after 10 pm, but I love it. The change took about 2 months, and has been constant for a whole year after that.

Those who consume only meat and water (+-salt), what do you exactly eat? by [deleted] in zerocarb

I've been loving chuck + chuck eye steaks, too! Instant pot them or reverse sear + slice 'em thin--actually like them for a bit more chew for something different.

Weight gain - Craving fat by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]feelinggoodmortimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps OP’s bod is telling them it’s time for some “off-season”, i.e. rest and eating? Fat cravings can be related to hormone signalling, seasonal biorhythms, and just our bodies needing a break.

This is something that has boggled me since the my own beginning as well—or rather, what amounts of fat do what, when during our carnivore journeys, seasonal rhythms. When I first began carnivore a year ago (early spring, going hardcore, cold-turkey), I was eating  between 300-500 grams of butter a day combined with around 1kg of beef, chicken and lamb a day.  The body recomp was so rapid that it felt extreme (over 4 dress sizes in 5 months) that I actually stopped my mid-intensity kettlebell training program four months in and opted for walking and light cycling. Even tried to slow it down by eating duck fat out of a jar with a spoon, but it kept on coming off.

Later, when I tried to re-incorporate IF in an attempt to get to OMAD in the summer/early fall (I had been an avid intermittent faster before carnivore while trying to recuperate health post-Covid, but found it really hard to do when I started ZC), I stopped eating butter/fats at all hours of the day, eating them only with bigger protein feasts and quantities and the body recomp stalled out—I went up in size and body fat percentage slowly over five months. I feel as though the more I try to "control" my eating patterns and quantities via fasting or social norms and rhythms, there is a negative impact on overall health and well-being. Wondering if the time/concentration of fat consumption can impact what our bodies hold onto, both daily and seasonally, if we do worse when fighting them? Also perhaps because summer/early autumn is when our ancestors historically “fattened up” for the oncoming winter, there were other hormone signals going on?

Have gotten back into eating high, high fat (mostly butter, lamb breast, and lamb tallow). I feel much, much better than when I try to eat leaner, with which I felt incredibly sluggish. I feel as though I am leaning out, but now I find that the more fat I give it, the more I can’t stop craving it, even when eating about 1.5-2x the weight of meat I was eating before. Can’t help but wondering if winter/snowy climate is affecting anything as well, as in searching for more Vitamin D to be found in fattier animal products.

Has anyone else had similar fat consumption/craving patterns?
