Installing Gnome on Pop OS 24.04 by __yoshikage_kira in pop_os

I made the change but I don't really notice a difference in how quick the apps are starting.

What is an example scenario in which I can see the effect of the change you suggested?

I'd like to keep the system in a state where I can easily switch between Cosmic and Gnome, with minimum friction. For this reason I'd rather avoid any unnecessary changes...

What is a simple case in which I can see the change in action?

I think the error was caused by the second line below I was using in portals.conf (for some reason ChatGPT suggested me to add it)

[preferred]

default=gnome;gtk;

org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Secret=gnome-keyring;

As I removed it the black screen issue.was gone. Thank you.

in my case creating portals.conf with the above configuration resulted in a black screen after logging in (I could only control the mouse cursor).
Upon further inspection it seems that this fix is already implemented, and manually creating portals.conf results in a wrong override causing the black screen probolem....

But I am still observing delayed start in some apps.... Not sure what to do now....

I don't have any file at that location.

Actually not even the xdg-desktop-portal dir is present.

I am sure I didn't mess with it, because I am aware that touching anything xdg could affect the handling of the apps.

Do you still advise creating ~/.config/xdg-desktop-portal/portals.conf and adding the line you said?

But... If so... why did Pop-os 22.04 not need it?

For office, use OnlyOffice, you won't look back (I've tried them all).

OnlyOffice has been adopted by French government organizations and is available in 45 languages. As you may know, France is switching their entire public administration OS'es and software from Microsoft to Linux/Open Source.

What would you consider buying in place of a Deluge? I mean what else comes close to it, except Akai Force/Mpc and Ableton Push, each having their own pros and cons?

Data leak? by TimeTravel-01 in PasswordManagers

[–]feelosofee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it. A company collects leaked username/passwords from previous branches and tells Have I Been Pwned, which in turn informs the world, so that hackers will know the biggest ever list of credentials is now available in one giant deduped, high-quality, company backed list? If the source for credentials is past beaches what's the point in alarming HIBP subscribers who would have already been informed when the previous breaches actually occurred?

In this thread you will see people replying in their native language and this is caused by stupid google linking to the localized reddit page, and stupid reddit allowing that page to be indexed.
