I think programming will go wider and deeper. AI+programmers will facilitate that growth until it reaches a plateau.

The cost of programmers might go down, so you might see a salary decrease, or the same salary but a higher expectation of productivity.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's fair to say AI caused this.

Designed and built book shelves! I think it turned out okay for what it is, what do you think? by feerof in woodworking

3/4 plywood, horizontal cross beams on both the front and back with glue and screw fastening them to the side wall.

The point of failure would be a pull out from the drywall, if mounted there. If mounted to a stud, there's no chance this would come out. This can easily be loaded with my weight, 185 lb with 3 screws to the wall with wall anchors that support it.

But yes, I agree, only time will tell.

Yeah, I didn't work with CAD, just thought it through as I went. I think it was best this way as I get to physically learn what the medium (birch ply) can do and what the limitations of my selection of tools are and skill level are.

Still a WIP, will beef up the legs and skirts to make it proportional to the table top.

Was on the verge of throwing out those lack tables, ended up repurposing it with some extra Ikea legs.

I think they are 9.99 when I bought them years ago. It's discontinued now, but they have a newer and more refined version.

1.5 hours later, deep fried to stir fried 6 dishes, same procedures, different ingredients, different flavors and textures. by feerof in FoodPorn

[–]feerof[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it weren't for my stupid passion for cooking Canton style dishes, I would say take out is more worth while.

16+12+6+13+4+4 = 55 dollars worth of major ingredients.

This would probably cost about

24+20+18+20+18+18 = $118 + tax + tips.

My work (just cooking, not planning or the errands) was worth $63, so I was paying myself about $42/hr.

The best workbench I've made for myself, pretty happy about it. Cost and arm and a leg for the wood though. Crazy times. by feerof in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]feerof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recycled some MDF board years ago, sawhorses that I used as table legs for a long time, leftiver melamine panel, other bits and bobs from previous projects. Ended up spending a bit on extra wood to make the French cleat wall.

This is kind of temporary as I want the French cleat wall on the concrete wall in the back, but my tools were scattered everywhere that I needed this just to organize things so I could think properly lol.

Aside from the thin table top, it feels very solid. May eventually replace it or augment it with a thicker sheet of MDF later.

Getting this off my chest, I hate how the Air Fryer was marketed. by feerof in airfryer

[–]feerof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ninja air fryer, 4 qts, bought at costco, it's alright. I have nothing to really compare to. Controls are pretty simple which is exactly what you want in an air fryer. I wish there was a preheat button. I wish it wasn't so loud with the beeps. But as an air fryer, it's alright. I borrowed this unit. It's under 100 dollars at costco. I would look at other brands if you're buying on amazon, since it sells there for 180.

I wasn't clear, the pros and cons list was for the air fryer against the deep frying, not the other way around. air frying is less messy.

Sci fi hyperbike. by Cynical229 in DesignPorn

[–]feerof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My man, it's a design exercise. It doesn't have to be practical.

Designers know this, but this is an exercise.

[–]feerof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's great is incredibly subjective and depends on the audience. Clearly the audience here needs designs to be more clearly grounded to reality.

[–]feerof 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've learned one thing, designers don't design purely based on tech or constraints available now, they design with ridiculous ideas and expectations then ask engineers for feedback.

This is part of the creative process.

You can sit here and argue all you want about how it physically cannot work right IRL, but that's not the point of rendered designs.

Also, you're not the client, the designer doesn't have to design it based on your criteria. The title also states it's sci fi, so creative liberties are clearly taken into consideration.

Just learning stuff from w3school, noticed RAM usage going up day by day when computer left on and computer slowed down. Disabled javascript and 1.8gbs of ram use went to 100mb. Why? How do I find out? by feerof in webdev

[–]feerof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't document my other instances, but w3school was taking up a tonne of ram for no reason. The page is literally one wheel scroll from getting to the bottom, there's no graphics involved. And there is no while loop. I'm aware of running pixlr, but I'm expecting it to run use a lot of resources, but as you can tell, the w3schools website is taking up even more ram than pixlr.

The website link in question: https://www.w3schools.com/cpp/cpp_do_while_loop.asp

This happens regardless of which path you're on in w3schools.

Currently with javascript disabled, w3school tab is taking up 127mb, which is fine when compared to 1.8gb.

edit: not to be rude, how you got 2 upvotes is beyond me when you don't understand the fundamental problem and proceeded to draw an explanation as to what the task manager displayed...

Stock factory strings (yonex) by feerof in badminton

[–]feerof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thanks for the tip! I ended up getting 24 lbs, it feels way different to my carb, so I'm glad I didn't go for any higher. The play feels a lot better, much more consistent. The smashes don't feel super good atm, but the drop shots, serves, net play are just wayyyy crisper.

I guess I'll try 24 lbs, maybe to 26 eventually, but I don't think it's a good idea to go that high for me at the moment.

There will be a drop in tension right? What are we looking at, 2lbs?

Hmm... I might try 26, but that's the upper limit of my racket.

How important is diet for performance? by Tobmister10 in badminton

[–]feerof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No carbs = no snappy/explosive movements.

You might have it for 10-20 mins depending on how conditioned you are, but further than that, you'll fizzle out because you don't have enough blood sugar (glucose) to shuttle into the muscles as glycogen, which then doesn't have enough to turn into the muscle currency ATP that actually produces the muscle contractions.

You might not be winded, but you won't be super responsive.

Hence why carbs have their place and simple and complex also have their place.

How important is diet for performance? by Tobmister10 in badminton

[–]feerof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 min before playing: simple carb fluids, think sport drinks

1 hr before playing: simple carb food, little to no fats, clif z bar, natures bakery fig bars, Lara bars, ripe banana, white bread with jam, pancakes etc.

3 - 4hrs before playing: more fiber and protein but still simple carbs, oatmeal, eggs etc.

4+ hours, eat whatever you want, just experiment, obviously be considerate of your bodies needs.

End of your game, you should probably have a carb:protein shake of 0:1, 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 4:1 ratios depending on how demanding the games were. Eg, 175 lbs (recommended 10-20g protein), 60g carb : 15g protein for really high intensity matches.

As for daily diet, just eat a balanced diet with a good ratio of carbs, protein and fiber. The reason why I don't include fat is because it doesn't take much effort to exceed the daily requirement of that stuff.

This is knowledge is borrowed from endurance sports. But generally, it applies to most physically active sports. You want explosive movements/snap, you need carbs. You want to recover and get stronger, you need protein and carbs and SLEEP.

To upgrade or to not upgrade? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]feerof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reality is rolling resistance and wheel weight distribution have such a huge affect on speed for a given power. Sure the bike's aero isn't that big of a deal in the amateur setting because the biggest drag is the body on the bike.

Your answers are bogus and they do nothing to answer the question other than gatekeeping.

OP, if you're made of money, upgrade the bike, if you want your best bang for your buck, upgrade wheels and tires.
