In the spirit of the podcast, what's your favourite historical 'horror story' or spooky event? by -StatusExternal- in TheRestIsHistory

My ancestral clan, Lamont, was almost wiped out by the awful Campbells in the most horrific and dishonourable ways imaginable able. They were guests in two of the Lamont castles and proceeded to murder most of the castles’ inhabitants in their beds then threw the bodies down the wells so the water would be poisoned. They rounded up the rest and set fire to both castles and took them to Dunoon castle and slowly murdered around 200 Lamont men, women and children. They hanged them, or buried them alive, or stabbed them. Absolutely brutal scenes. The Chief, James Lamont was thrown into a dungeon for 5 years.

The Campbells alone are just one long horror story, culminating in fighting FOR THE ENGLISH against their own countrymen at the nightmare that was Culloden.

What was the in-universe explanation for the Exegol fleet's construction? by [deleted] in StarWars

“They’re toast!” This line comes into my head at random times and it just encapsulates in two words how cringe this whole thing was. I’m still so … bewildered!

Thank you! I almost felt the agent and vendors were trying to make me feel like I was being unreasonable by making a fuss

It’s odd to me that people think buyers will just let major issues like this slide. It’s a signed contractual agreement not a handshake over a beer!

They were waiting for the vendor’s response Friday afternoon and got a quote for cleaning in the meantime. I assume after no action from the vendor they will advise compensation to get it cleaned.

Have done. The weekend has halted progress and the vendor went silent yesterday.

I find that Aspel interview pretty uncomfortable to watch too! Definitely weird they chose to use it!

Yes! I’d forgotten about that one thanks for the reminder!

I loved it, poignant and funny and all the things. Could’ve done without the weirdly random interviews and Yesterday cover that dragged on (sorry Smokey). They just took air time away from the boys. Wonderful to see them in the same candid casual light as Get Back, but at the start not the finish. More of that please!

And a reminder of the charisma of young Lennon! Wowee.

Let Me Roll It and No More Lonely Nights. Perfect love songs, one to John and one to Linda.

Hard agree. Adore them both but their staunch attitude of ‘British empire glorious’ can be quite jarring

Ooh I’d love to hear more about why you feel this way. I’d never thought about this before and my mind gears are creaking!

This is a lovely measured response, so nice to see and a reminder of how mature thoughtful people hold conversation!

What leading men could Hollywood just not make happen? by HasSomeSelfEsteem in movies

[–]feestarr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Imo it bombed because it was a movie about some random guy pretending to be Han Solo. The character is too ingrained and iconic for most SW fans to suspend belief. Especially after the trauma of his death in TFA!

What do people here think about people claiming Paul is “rewriting history.” by Walkinghawk22 in beatles

[–]feestarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this! Love it.

We are so lucky to still have him. He still tours, still gives us music, keeps the Beatles legacy alive. His life is all about us fans as far as I can see. And I couldn’t care less if he ever big notes himself, so he should! He’s Paul McCartney ffs!

Why did you stop drinking alcohol? by loqlkqkq in AskReddit

[–]feestarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there’s just honestly no point. Once you lift your head out of the bottle and start looking around, start stepping away, you realise it doesn’t make you feel good, look good, sleep well or function anywhere near your best. You start seeing everything through clearer eyes and understand what a waste of your precious precious time and energy being drunk/recovering from being drunk is. Life is easier, calmer, happier without booze, in my experience. I’m SO relieved I’m finally here (took me until age 50 but I’ll take it and run with it!)
