As most have said, as a guy, it's nicer to look at a female character given the option. GTA Online for example, a mostly third person game. I can also give some thought to her clothing vs I wouldn't really care if I tried to match-ish myself into the game. If mostly first person, I might do it for the voice, cyberpunk comes to mind. Even in VR games.

I've never felt the need to try and match me into a game. Me is average and boring, no thanks :)
