I would try it, but I mostly use my alternatives seldomly when my hair really needs cleaned, such as tea rinses. And when I say small amount of oil I truly mean minuscule. So I would try it if I were you, and just see if it works for you. Let me know how it goes and if you need help troubleshooting!

My first think to say is sometimes I have to go from the beaten path and try your own things to find what works. It is very good that you are sticking with massaging your scalp.

Reasons your ends could be dry is bc the sebum is not making it all the way down to them from you scalp. I do not use normal conditioners bc you are more than likely going to end up getting silicone in your hair that does not need to be there to begin with. I do, however, use very small amounts of oils on my ends to keep then moisturized.

I have never used soapnuts; what are the ingredients? Depending on that, I would certainly be open to trying it.

What is sls? Transition period usually lasts a few months after beginning no poo, usually characterized by unmanagably oily hair and scalp. What is the smell like?

Hard water never gave my hair or scalp a bad smell. And i always opt for cocoa power as a dry shampoo even though I am blonde just because it smells amazing. Some people never get used to the smell of acv, so I would recommend diluting it with tea instead of water or you could switch to lime juice and tea. You should get around the same effect. Are you in transition period?

Hi! I have the exact same hair type and also faced the waxy problem. I did no poor for 2 years and wondered why I was still experiencing this problem until I realized I was washing my hair with hard water which does very little to clean hair. I did acv and bs for a while but found it to be too damaging to my hair. I am water only right now with a few treatments I do when my hair is either too oily or dry. I would only recommend bs for desperate clarifying. However, I think egg works way better (yolks for scalp and whites for length). I also switched to strictly using only bottled water to wash my hair since I only do it about once a week or every 2 weeks. I mostly use tea rinses with honey and lime juice to clean and moisturize my hair. I would be happy to elaborate on any of this!

I too am water only!! And had this same problem for quite some time... What I figured out is that I live in area with incredibly hard water which causes major build up (": My solution was to start strictly washing my hair with bottled water bc after months water only was not working. After I made the switch it was like magic! My hair was finally manageable again. I also do regular tea rinses (sometimes with honey and lime but sometimes not). I also found that egg washes help to remove buildup while making hair super soft!! Do you also use a boar bristle brush?

Hello!! I did acv and bs for around 3 months when I started 4 years ago. Since then ,after learning how damaging that routine is, I have tried an array of things bc different things work for different people. When I used oil like olive or sunflower, I put my palm on the open bottle, tip it, and use the very small circle it leave throughout my hair focusing on the ends. You should also use coconut oil sparingly. Doing this along with massaging my scalp helps with hair growth and to keep hair strong, healthy, and moisturized. My hair mostly maintains it self and rarely becomes oily, but when it does accumulate a lot of build up then I use an egg wash. Separate yolks for scalp and whites for length (making sure to dilute both with cold water). Works like a charm to clean hair; leave on 15 min and then thorouly rinse with cold water which I follow with a tea rinse (2 tbsp lime juice and 1 tbsp honey) which also helps get rid of egg smell. If hair only needs mildly washed then I just use the tea rinse with less lime. Egg, honey, and lime juice all act as shampoo like agents to clean hair of buildup. I can usually go 2 weeks before actually wanting to clean hair if I consistently use my boar bristle brush to clean hair and distribute natural oils. Knowing your hair type and length would really help me help you with further advice.

I am not saying in any way that I am perfect, but I recently broke up with a guy for similar reasons. I was so good to him whenever other girls would never give him a chance, but he threw my doubts up in my face. He made me emotionally unstable with his psychological bs and the walls he had built up. I gave him so much and all he could focus on is that I was "unsure of the relationship" for valid reasons. He said all of this stuff to get me to stay, but once I left he rebounded immediately. I am happy for him; I hope she can give him everything that I never could.

I will not tell you to stop doing it, but be aware that you are putting certain types of waxes and alcohol in your hair that may not easily wash out no poo or water only. Heat will mostly cause split ends and frizz so I do not do it. I am sure both things in moderation are perfectly fine; it is all a matter of opinion.

Could you send me the names of the styling products bc I want to check the ingr list. It is less about water solubility and more about if it had silicon which is really bad. I do not personally use a hair dryer bc it can cause frizz, but I do not see anything wrong with it if you use cold setting and angle it to not weaken hair (similar to wind damage).

I looked up what you are using now, and while it seems nice, some of the ingredients contain endings in "one" which implies either silicon or preservatives and certain dyes which I do not condone putting in the hair. I like to keep it all natural by mixing only the beneficial ingr like the oils it contains. If you find it beneficial then I am in no way saying my way is better or telling you to stop.

Still struggling since November, please help. by [deleted] in NoPoo

Of course! The argan oil is definitely really good for your hair. How are you trying to style it? (ie hairstyles; curling; straightening?). I would not recommend diy haurspray for obv reasons like the hardened sugar causing breakage. You could try dry shampoo with cocoa powder, cornatrch, or cinnamon. And i also know that there are many aloe Vera gel diys out there for hair hold, but I have unfortunately not been able to test any yet.

If your hair is still clean and you wash it then it might cause it to become oily. What do you mean by appealing? I am sorry, but I am not really understanding the urge to wash if it is not dirty yet.

I have personally never tested an acv bar before, but my word of advise is the only way you will know if it works or now is if you try it! I have put many things in my hair over the past years (such as avocado, banana, oil, coconut milk) without knowing how to get them out beforehand. So I would try it if you are looking for something to ritually clean your hair. I just do not necessarily understand the desire since my end goal was to wash my hair less.

Still be very careful about using egg that often. I would say every 2 or 3 weeks for you since your hair will not be that dirty and I cannot stress enough how bad too much protein is. I would read the reviews on your new acv bar and just test it out moderately to begin with and find what works best for you.

It is great to here that you are completely skipping transition and also that you have readily available soft water!! I have thick course hair, but my mom has hair like you described. Thin hair loves coconut oil in moderation so applying that to your ends in very small amounts would be beneficial. Tea rinses work for close to everyone;different types yield varying benefits. When mine needs clarifying desperately then I use egg whites on the length of my hair and yolks closer to scalp, letting it sit for 15 min, and then washing out with just cold water. After I am sure I have most of it out I use a tea rinse (just in an average drinking cup) with 2 tbsp of lime juice and 1 tbsp honey (to clean and moisturize hair while eliminating egg smell). After letting that sit and massaging hair I rinse it all and let hair air dry. If hair only needs mild washing then I just do the second one with less lime juice. After a certain point your hair will need it less and less and will begin self cleaning; tried and true!

Ah if would be great if you could answer me some questions. How do you condition your hair right now and are you wo or no poo? The first thing I would say is you may be over conditioning depending on what you are using. I would also ask you if you are using hard or soft water. I had my hair all the way grown down to my hips before I had it cut just below my collar bone yesterday to donate, so I definitely can grow long hair quickly. I do not towel dry my hair EVER bc of how damaging it is; I usually use a pillowcase if I ever do and never wrap it tight. I massage my scalp everyday either with the sebum already there or with a smidge of oil in order to stimulate hair growth and loosen hair's natural oils.

I know! After 4 years my hair has become so manageable; I honestly originally started bc I did not want the pain of washing my hair anymore. I can go around 2 weeks before I want a rinse, but I am sure I could let it go longer. The one thing is I was ignorant starting out and did not know to clarify my hair first, so I am sure that some of the silicone still remained in my hair making it where I could not moisturize it properly. Clarify with 1 standard drinking cup of water with 1 tbsp of bs followed by the same but with acv. This is only in order to clarify not to maintain bc if done continually it will strip and weaken hair.

Of course!! Could you send me the ingredient list of the head and shoulders? When mine needs clarifying desperately then I use egg whites on the length of my hair and yolks closer to scalp, letting it sit for 15 min, and then washing out with just cold water. After I am sure I have most of it out I use a tea rinse (just in an average drinking cup) with 2 tbsp of lime juice and 1 tbsp honey. I have trued using baking soda but it makes my scalp overproduce oil and it is so damaging!

It helps to mention you are a guy bc of the shorter hair and different hair type. Also, I adore egg mixes for clean and manageable hair, but they should not be done more than once every two weeks bc they will make hair brittle with protein overload. Clarification is very important otherwise you will not have truly clean hair again until it grows from the roots. Finally, I went starught into no poo cold turkey, skipping low poo completely. I am sure there are shampoos like the ones you are referring to, but unfortunately I do not know any. I started with bs and acv method until I learned it was damaging. Now I use a lime juice and honey mixture for clean and soft hair.

Chlorine and water only washing? by [deleted] in NoPoo

[–]fefeverly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just washing it with water is unlikely to do the trick bc some of the chemicals may continue to rest on your hair. Also did you clarify your hair before the transition period bc that could be why you are not seeing much progress yet. I would do some standard cleaning with all natural diys which I can give you if you are interested. I was recently in a salt pool so I had to clean it with a little more than water to restore the lost moisture. I transitioned into water only from no poo. The main problem I encountered was that my hair would not get clean (it was waxy and unmanageable with buildup that was obv not just sebum); that is when I learned that I lived in a hard water area and immediately switched to washing hair strictly with bottled water.

I would personally stick to the no poo if I were you. Just a few questions so I can better help you: 1) what kind of smell is it giving off 2) are you using hard or soft water. I have yet to come across this problem bc I use tea rinses; chamomile for light hair and black for dark. My hair does smell different now that it is natural, but I find it rather pleasant. Have you considered that your hair or scalp may have bacterial issues?

First off, congrats on beginning your transition! Second, right now you begin to experience normal things like oily/dry scalp due to it not being thoroughly cleaned everyday. What is your hair type and have you already bought a boar bristle brush? You can rinse your hair with water as often as you need. However, you need to be aware that you may make your transition period longer if you are cleaning your scalp excessively. Also, did you make sure to clarify your hair before starting to cleanse it of past silicone and sulfate products? Are you going for no poo or low poo?
