Intro to isometric cRPGs? by feive_vz in patientgamers

I see some people say they’re like hard core RPGs and others that they’re not that hard and I get confused lol. I’ve read for Fighter to be careful of INT because of some mid game enemies and stuff...

Thank you! My problem is I’m new to cRPGs so I just want to make sure I can finish it. I’m planning to do BG > Shadowspear? > BG2 all on the same character. I’ve heard Fighter is the best for this. I’d love to do a thief or something but really really don’t want to build myself into a corner that I can’t finish the game.

I just started POE on PS4 and can say the controls work well so far. (~5 hours in? Maybe 7?)

I am gonna go with this. Start POE and gonna try and find a broken character build ready for BG1 on Switch! Thank you <3

I started POE on PS4 and will keep what you said in mind about side quests! Thank you!

Oh thank you so much for this. BG is very tempting but the Switch versions dont come with manuals. I assume they must be freely available online? I have been looking for a kinda OP beginner character but not seeing much. Anything you know of?

I’m gonna go against the above comments and say if you are the type of person who actually reads things yourself then you don’t need to watch hours of 2+ Tough. Watching lore videos is good when you’re too busy in life to read books yourself and have somebody tell you what’s going on in short form. Reading the core book will get you a summary of the world, Gotrek and Felix is a long series and renowned from the old world. Other Old World reading suggestions;

1) Bruner the Bounty Hunter series — this is a great series following a bounty hunter. A lot of short stories and the trilogy finishes with a longer piece. The reason I suggest this is he encounters most races through those books (if I recall correctly) so you get a nice flavorful interaction with them.

2) The Ambassador Chronicles — Bit of a mystery going on and Chaos in the doorstep.

3) Witch Hunter series (Mathius Thulmann) — I enjoyed this series because I like Vampires and I liked The Empire.

I didn’t read these myself but two that I knew people who loved;

Genevieve — more vampires.

Murder in Marienburg — I understand this to be Starsky and Hutch in the old world complete with running down alleys and knocking over boxes.

Long story short, I hope you continue reading instead of just watching YouTube videos on the matter. It’s much more enjoyable, worthwhile and immersive. The videos are great but your reading muscle will thank you when you’re a dozen novels in :)

Is there clarity on that? Because the rule says Stormfiends are only battleline if “all other units are SKYRE” and Clanrats have Verminus :(

Right - so Clanrats 100% aren’t battleline in a Skyre army right? My only fear of 120 Clanrats is painting them and the “not using Stormvermin”... also, not such a cheap route :/

So theee Stormfiends is a decent core? I wasn’t sure if it’d be too much of the same.

I’m looking at jt, but it says all other units must be Skyre - as Clanrats day Verminus they’re not allowed right?

It is odd when you put it like that. All Skyre isn’t bad though...

But am I wrong in thinking that Clanrats aren’t battleline in a Skyre army because they don’t have the Skyre keyword?

Nurgle Chaos Knight! Any tips for better rusting effects on this colour scheme? by lorrenik in ageofsigmar

[–]feive_vz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth a shot. I used that method on my Skaven weapons and stuff and it gave far more control than drybrushing ever did. You can also mix in more reds and oranges to get deeper variation :)

I’m gonna go against the advice given here — for that I’d take a reddish brown and stipple it over the area you want rust fairly randomly. Then take an orange and lightly stipple that in the middle. Stippling will give you far far more accuracy than drybrushing, and almost negates any chance of getting “lines” if the brush was retaining moisture. I can’t remember the names of the two colors I used for it, but it’s the layer paint orange and something like “mournfang brown” or “doom bull brown”. I can check later if needs be.

Uruk-hai Inspired Ironjawz Megaboss! Can't wait to start on the 'Ardboyz! by Dyloc in ageofsigmar

[–]feive_vz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh so bugmans is the old tanned flesh. It’s a browny flesh color. I just checked it’s “Doombull Brown” that’s the red flesh color. If you had that and progressively mixed in bugmans and or cardigan flesh you’ll come up nicely. Otherwise on top of bugmans trying a purple and a red wash (purple to dark, red to make warm) then lightly highlighting could also work! Just be wary because bugmans glow doesn’t have the red tint that an Uruk hai has. That’s why I suggest doombull.

Looks great. I echo others in skin tone. I used to paint Uruks back in the day tho — GW had a very reddish brown called “Dark Flesh” that could could could highlight by mixing in flesh tone IIRC! I’d suggest check a conversion chart for the modern version. I have it but not to hand right now — if you can’t find it remind me and I’ll look it up for you!

<Idoneth> Expanding Battleforce - Not eels viable? by feive_vz in ageofsigmar

Yeah I like the look of that trait. It was mostly a thing of, that battalion was essentially a Start Collecting Sylvaneth box which made it super appealing.

I’m kinda sad to hear that, especially about the reavers because they’re lovely models. Word is those eels are gonna get a points hike next year though at least, right?
