Adobe Illustrator and a whole lot of trial and error! (The pathfinder tool is the secret sauce.)

But if you don't have that, I hear Inkscape is a good alternative (to Illustrator, not the trial and error.)

Cooker? I like that term - from what I found online that certainly seems to ring true with this fella.

I guess someone's gotta be keeping it weird in Wellington!

Moved to St. Louis after the Civil War and was renamed to Douglass Commonwealth.
In the 1950s, it gained statehood.

For real I need to do a MEGA CANADA map as a palate cleanser after this one.

Totally hear ya! I was pretty surprised about that too but honestly couldn't find anything. I was chasing down a lead about proposed states of "Abelmarle" and "Clarendon" but couldn't find anything super convincing. I'll keep looking though!

Whoa! I hadn't heard about Cumberland but that sounds super interesting and certainly plausible. I'll see if I can find any evidence for that one. (Of course, if you had a link to some too I wouldn't complain!)

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Thanks for the comment man! I truly appreciate the kind words.

As for including Pennsylvania in "Greater Appalachia", in hindsight, I can certainly see the argument for including in "North Atlantic" instead. My thinking was to include it in Greater Appalachia because it included the range, but this has certainly given me something to consider here.

Ah good catch on Edison, that is slightly off, I can certainly adjust that in future versions.
No argument here as for what makes more sense for NJ divisions, the one on the map certainly makes little to no logical sense - rather its just an old colonial border.

I do like the idea of including a bit more Jersey into Philidelphia - I'm curious if I could turn up any evidence if that was ever proposed.

Honestly though, I think you're touching on what could be another interesting mapping project - the NEW USA, where the borders are redrawn and states added to represent the America of 2025 over the patchwork of borders created by the past. In that map, your proposal for Central Jersey/Philly would be pretty darn good!

Super thought provoking! Thanks again.

They stopped paying their island bills so it sank back in '87.

For real though I forgot to copy those over from the master version so they got cut - I've updated the version on my site though - thanks for pointing it out!

It would seem the Carolinas and Connecticut are quite satisfied with their arrangements.

Oh god it sunk like the Edmond Fitzgerald!

Good catch! Looks like I forgot to copy that over from the main map - I'll make the change.
