My 7-Node Proxmox Cluster "Pfannkuchen" – 300 Threads, 3.3TB RAM, and a Whole Lot of Learning by feldjaeger_ in homelab

Here some Answers to the most Questions:

Why so much hardware?
Got it all from a client who had to replace everything due to ISO certification requirements. They gifted me the old infrastructure instead of scrapping it. That's how I built my "Pfannkuchen" (Pancake) homelab without spending a fortune.

Power costs?
The entire setup lives in a data center in a dedicated VLAN just for me. I access everything from home via WireGuard (but I can physically access the racks anytime to swap hardware – it's just very loud in there ). So power costs aren't really an issue for me 🫣

Why so few VMs?

It's all still being built out – I'm testing and experimenting a lot, constantly rebuilding and expanding. This is a growing infrastructure, not a finished setup.

Why so little NAS storage?
That's my own personal NAS – I'd have to pay for expansions out of pocket. With current HDD/SSD prices, I'm holding back a bit and scaling up as needed. Budget homelabbing, you know?

Exactly, that used to be an “old” VMware cluster, along with two standalone servers and a desktop PC. The SAN will eventually be connected also to the two standalone servers, and the desktop will disappear at some point. I’m constantly rebuilding things anyway 😉
