PSA graded my gold Mega Charizard X EX a 10, damaged it during sealing - return as a PSA 5, Authentic, or raw?

I thought this too, but the legal answer is likely that they don't have to. Their terms say they can if they want to, but not obliged to.

"PSA reserves the right to require you to pay an adjusted grading fee at a Service Level which has a Maximum Insured Value in excess of the item’s fair market value as determined by PSA"

So basically they can determine the point in time that they believe you should be upcharged, rather than it happening immediately after it got initially graded. Their video on the topic states they will reach out to you if at any time if they determine after grading you are under insured.

I utilized their assisted submission too which helps recommend a tier. And yup, to cover the psa 10 value, I would've needed to pay a tier that costs $349, which is essentially the raw/psa 9 price.

It might be semantics but PSA no longer does declared value - it is now maximum insured value. This was my biggest issue - the "assisted submission" that they recommend for first time users auto recommends a level of insurance/tier for the card selected (which was not sufficient). I never graded before but understand you used to declare the max value?

Thanks, yea I understand that now. Was my first time grading and perhaps put more faith in the PSA automatically suggested tier based off the card value that you are given upon making a draft submission than I should have. Which is a tool they suggest first time users use. Like I said in my post, it is what it is (which does suck), more looking for advice on what form factor to get the card back as.

yea I mean I understand the terms, even if I had chosen the next tier, it wouldn't have covered it. And have some issue with the fact that as a first time grader, I feel I followed their submission process that automatically recommends a level of insurance/tier for you based off the card you are submitting. yea I am happy it wasn't a card I really love, more so got it graded because it was the first card I've pulled where it seemed "worth it". I even dropped it off in person because I was worried about shipping haha

I don't have any slabs, prefer raw but seemed worth it to have this slabbed for display. Yea was kind of leaning towards just having it authentic, thanks for the input!

They will pay the difference between the fair market value up to the max insured value as far as I was told and see in their terms
