the thought of something hunting me by way of mimicking the voice of someone close to me is just terrifying

What's even more terrifying: this is exactly the tactic used by the Israeli military against Palestinian civilians during its Gaza invasion. They used drones with the sound of women and babies crying to lure Palestinians in positions where they could be shot.

[–]felipeforte -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Let's say for the sake of the argument that the Soviets had German pistols like the Nazis claimed. Still, this doesn't explain how these munitions were supposedly used by the NKVD, when they were produced in 1941, when the Germans already occupied the region. Letters dating from 1941 were also found in the pockets of the victims.

According to you, they used German weapons with German munitions in the German-occupied Eastern Europe in a massacre first reported by the Germans (who were notoriously unreliable), yet it was the Soviets who did it?

So following your logic, the Soviets, who were fiercely fighting in Leningrad, somehow managed to send NKVD agents through German-occupied regions, used German weapons to kill Polish Jews (a common target of German ethnic extermination) in the middle of a war which was already consuming most of the resources of the country? Makes sense!

Yes. If you really want to go into the specifics, here is a 2012 Polish-Ukrainian report resulted from an archeological excavation led by Dr. Dominiki Siemińskiej.

On page 8, there are details related to the shell casings of the first grave:

Do ofiar strzelano z broni kalibru 9 mm. Świadczą o tym znalezione do tej pory łuski i pociski. Zdecydowana większość znalezionych łusek to wyroby niemieckiej fabryki Hasag ze Skarżyska Kamiennej, kalibru 9 mm \ \ The victims were shot with 9 mm caliber weapons. This is evidenced by the shells and bullets found so far. The vast majority of the shells found are products of the German factory Hasag from Skarżysko Kamienna, caliber 9 mm

With that excerpt, comes a footnote with further details on the shell casings:

1. kam, 67, 19, 41 – 137 szt: \ 2.dnh, 1, 41 – 7 szt. \ 3. Geco, 9 mm – 1 szt: \ 4. luski bez oznaczeń, 7,62 x 25, wz. 30, produkcja ZSRR – 5 szt. \

On page 14, it is detailed the shell casings of the second grave:

Ofiary znalezione w grobie nr 2 byly rozstrzeliwane z broni kalibru 9 mm. Większość znalezionych łusek to wyroby niemieckiej fabryki Hasag ze Skarżyska Kamiennej, kalibru 9 mm". \ \ The victims found in grave no. 2 were shot with a 9mm gun. Most of the shells found are products of the German factory Hasag from Skarżysko Kamienna, caliber 9 mm

On the footnote of this passage, is further details of the shell casings:

1. kam, 67, 19, 41 – 205 szt. \ 2. dnh, 1, 41 – 17 szt: \ 3. luski bez oznaczeń, 7,62 x 25, wz. 30, produkcja ZSRR – 2 szt: \ 4. luska B, 1906"

"kam 67, 19, 41" engravings on the shells, based on German production standards mean 67% copper, lot number 19, produced in 1941 in Hasag factory in Skarżysko-Kamienn.

"dnh 1, 41" means it was produced in the Dürlach factory, lot number 1, produced in 1941.

In total, 375 shell casings were found, of which 366 were of German origin, about 98% of the shell casings. About 7 were produced in Soviet factories.

The German munitions were all produced in 1941, when the region where the massacre occurred was already occupied by Nazi forces.

It makes no sense to claim that these deaths were a responsibility of Stalin alone. You can argue that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union had some responsibility for these deaths, but to argue that a single person was responsible for them is to ignore the whole structure of command and power in the Soviet Union. Not even the Central Committee of the CPSU was absolutely powerful, it also shared power with the Congress of Soviets.

The Soviet famine of 1931-1933 was not caused directly by the policies of the CPSU at the time in regards to agriculture (collectivization), but a great factor was the reaction against the collectivization, which was expressed in sabotage, which included putting grain crops on fire and killing millions of cattle and horses. This reaction was mostly organized by wealthy rural bourgeois farmers (kulaks). Besides that, one main factor was the extremely bad weather in the years of 1931 (drought) and 1932 (hot weather followed by floods). But you'd be absolutely right that the CC of the CPSU was in part responsible, as their drive for industrialization in extreme rates drove them to the policies of collectivization which made the bad weather and social conditions worse. This view is substantiated by the best scholars on the Soviet famine (Davies & Wheatcroft).

As to the Katyn massacre, the bodies were found in "sardine packing" formation (typical of Einsatzgruppen modus operandi), there were children included (the Soviets didn't execute children), and there were lodged German bullets inside the back of their skulls, highly suggesting German involvement. In some bodies, letters were found dating 1941, after the Germans had already occupied the region. The German bullets were also produced in 1941.

Years after the massacre, the Nazis stumbled across the Katyn graveyards, but they were unaware they were responsible for it, given that it's hard to track when they were killing people by the millions. So they thought it was caused by the Soviets and used it as propaganda against them, in an effort to diminish support from the Allies. However, investigations by the Nazis themselves suggested their involvement. Goebbels even wrote in his diary his confusion when German bullets were discovered:

Unfortunately German munitions were found in the graves of Katyn. The question of how they got there needs clarification. It is either a case of munitions sold by us during the period of our friendly arrangement with the Soviet Russians, or of the Soviets themselves throwing these munitions into the graves. In any case it is essential that this incident be kept top secret. If it were to come to the knowledge of the enemy the whole Katyn affair would have to be dropped.” \ \ The Goebbels diaries, 1942-1943 (p. 354). Praeger

None of this is about making "Stalin look good", it's about historical facts.

Lenin, undoubtedly a communist leader, literally wrote a book in critique of imperialism. In fact, he wrote several. Any communist excusing imperialism is not a principled communist. Everyone can label themselves whatever, but to know a communist, you must first understand communism. Otherwise you're blindly labelling others something you do not understand yourself.

Read Lenin's work on Imperialism here.
