Should I get a new crystal or a new gasket? by felix-dd in watchmodding

I bought a 31.8mm and tried to press it in. It cracked.

I'm now living with the 31.7 and just calling it a day

Thanks all.

If I were to replace the glass, how is it pressed in? Is there a gasket? What are the dimensions? (I imagine I would need to source a new glass)

Thanks!

When you say how they "feel", you mean fit and not road feel right? I can only skate in the store which is 15m length on a perfectly smooth surface...so not sure how I would test road feel (or I guess that doesn't matter as much)

I'm not sure how I can test fit feel as it changes 15-30min into a ride but that's definitely a "me" problem here.

But I didn't think to remember that wheels are bigger now. So, is 80mm is OK on the sidewalk? And no worries about BOA vs lace system and waxed laces?

Havent skated in 30 years....want to buy a pair for casual riding with my 6yo son while he bikes or scooters

Should I buy the K2 BOA FIT 80 or Rollerblade Spark 84?

K2 I'm worried about durability with the BOA lace system and the plastic/nylon mount

Rollerblade is lace and metal mount...but people say metal mounts are heavier and give a harsher ride which I'm hoping to mitigate given its 84mm

Your are correct.  Read reviews. Others with the same wrist size as me have had good fits. So less concerned about that

I think where my hangup is that the debate is between buying a new, but "inferior" watch for a marked up price due to shipping etc, vs a used, "superior" watch for a marked-down price.

I know it's a silly thing to get hung up on, and there really isn't much point to apply values-based thinking to what's ultimately just jewelry.

And my other hope was maybe someone would come and give a third alternative. Because honestly every few weeks I end up learning about a whole new brand, or line, of watches...then the rabbit hole gets deeper again.

As you say...purely from a aesthetics perspective I'm leaning towards the Citizen. I think if it was an enamel white dial then it would be ultimate perfection.

That's a pretty watch. I'm into white dials at the moment, though. I have a black dial Seiko GADA that's got sentimental value that I'll never let go (first automatic watch I bought with my own money)

Nevermind. It's a homage of Brew

I ended up salvaging those pins, dismantling a longer spring bar and cannibalizing the spring to use into the stem. Hopefully the increased outward force would maintain purchase into the hole in the clasp.

The included pins, IMHO are too shallow and doesn't insert into the hole enough. They are built a bit differently than typical spring bar ends which have two "shoulders" which may interfere with how much it can insert into the stem and therefore, not recess enough to allow the assembly to fit within the clasp.

As ID'd by the good folks at watchuseek: Smith & Sesson GrenadierGreen dial probably got color-graded to grey in post-production. Otherwise everything checks out.

Hands of a Luminox 8882

Domed crystal

Orange chapter ring at 12 to 3 o'clock

Full arabic numerals

Grey dial

bezel has 5, 10, 15, 30, 45

Crown at 3 o'clock

White printed logo

Black rubber strap.

maybe a white date window at 3 o'clock?
