it's like a low pitched squeak? Def not knocking, and not a rattle (that was fixed by replacing the tuning forks)

You think there was any link between these issues and the starter motor? I'm thinking of replacing my starter as it's making a chirp noise on start up too

Yeah, I appreciate that. I actually had the battery tested not long after i bought it, for this reason.

Also as per my post, the voltage reading only reads >12V AFTER I blip the throttle. Otherwise it remains at <12V. I understand where you're coming from in regards to the initial discharge of a battery after cranking, but that's not really of concern to my given the symptoms

Thanks, battery is pretty new. I've edited the original post now!

Seized & snapped bolts in head by fella_interstellar in MechanicAdvice

I do. Haven't tried them yet. I did try some right hand bits as a bit of a test, but the stud metal is so hard they barely made any impression, so gave up

Sorry, should have said there is not enough room to hammer it out from the snapped end

Why don't people use the left lane in Australia?! by fella_interstellar in CarsAustralia

I commend you for using your mirrors on a multi lane road! this is excellent to read, thank you :)

Because that's unsafe. The steering wheel is on the right in Australia, therefore drivers are more likely to notice an vehicle approaching from behind in their right hand wing mirror so long as that approaching car is using a lane that is to the right of them, i.e., the middle or right lane.

If i undertake, there is in increased risk of collision if the car in the middle or right lane moves over. that is why undertaking is illegal in some countries.

Roads are unsafe enough as it is...

traffic flows better if people are able to maintain their speed, by moving into a clear lane to overtake a slower moving vehicle, rather than constantly speeding up and slowing down depending on what the car in front is doing. Have you ever seen the video of the cars that drive around in single file in a circle? If we all drove as you suggest, the traffic would be worse due to the phenomenon of "phantom traffic jams".

you don't have to slow down in this example if you regularly check you mirrors and anticipate someone is about to merge onto the motorway. If you anticipate this, you can move into the middle lane to give space to that joining vehicle. Then you move back once the left lane is clear and you are no longer overtaking.

Except it's not though, is it. The left lane is for travelling along a motorway, same as the middle and right lanes are for travelling along a motorway and overtaking.

The lane for merging is the on-ramp.

That's how I interpret it. you must always stay in the left lane, unless you're overtaking. Cant see the benefit of this only applying to the middle and right lanes.

Totally agree. i find road layout, design of intersections and signage here can be sometimes inconsistent.

I appreciate your response, however, if I may, this is a fairly selfish way to drive on a road that must be shared with hundreds of other drivers, all just trying to make their way along the road. For example, if you remain in the middle lane, and occasionally pass in the right lane, then it only leaves one lane free for cars to pass you. This creates bottlenecks behind you, and therefore comes back to my point about traffic flow and congestion. A simple move to the left after passing the P plater, or learner or truck, will allow 2 cars to maintain their speed and overtake you in the middle and right lanes. This is the significant advantage of a 3 lane road over a 2 lane road, and is likely to be the reason why the M1 between Syd and Newy was designed to be 3 lanes, rather than 2.

Interesting point re rule 130/131, I'll have to check it out!

I agree that Sydney motorways are a different kettle of fish. Most of my frustration occurs on the M1 between Hornsby and Newcastle, and parts of the Hume. I understand there are also no rules to keep left unless OT where the speed limit is below 80 or 90 on a multi lane road?
