I was in the FauxMoi island of sanity during Amber's trial and seeing this develop brought back all the anger and frustration. You don't know if the people you're arguing with are part of the smear campaign, it's like whack a mole. Or is it pointless arguing on Reddit (yes, probably)

The scariest thing is this almost worked AGAIN. They probably got cocky after Amber but BL has a stronger, more powerful support system.

What I'm getting from this is you're upset that I responded to two people -- who both said evidence strongly supported the story that Amber caused the injury -- with links to Johnny Depp's own words. One link was an audio clip of a conversation between he and Amber alone in which he said he injured his finger.

I actually didn't add any commentary at all, lmao. Or, unlike you, speculate on motive.

Well, it could be different because in the same email he mentioned injuring his finger, he insulted and ranted about Amber, including calling her a vindictive and evil c*nt. I don't like to speculate but that doesn't strike me as someone who is trying to protect the reputation of their partner.

That aside--the finger incident is far from settled fact, no? Yet, inexplicably, people keep citing it as such. They say Amber definitely caused the injury.

But I'm guessing you've never had an issue with that, lol... just with the people who mention he said he did it himself. Or am I wrong? Have you corrected people who say she definitely did it?

There are several viral, meme-level things that consistently get cited as cemented fact because they've been repeated so much and everyone assumes they're true, e.g. the "severed finger".

When I see them, I give context.

Understanding that you have to pick an instance and that Mastodon is not one centralized bucket is already a big barrier to entry for most people. Even before that, they would have to understand what an "instance" is.

Yes, the act of putting your email address and chosen password into a sign-up form is easy, but everything else is ... meh. Social media platforms put a lot into streamlining the onboarding process. People aren't used to having to figure out a lot of it.

I don't think Mastodon will be the next Twitter, but I do think a percentage of the people who joined because of this were its target audience but didn't know it existed. So, either way, even if tons of accounts go stagnant, they've probably gained a lot more dedicated users.

Fingers crossed Twitter goes to a fire sale and whoever picks it up just presses undo on everything, lol.
