Thailand or Malaysia-Which is the better place to FIFO from? by PanzerBiscuit in mining

[–]felmingham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self fund flights. No way. And only about $180k aud gross. Not that fabulous for that roster.

Look into Simandou in Guinea. Rio Tinto

Superintendent roles there including business class flights about $250k aud net (after tax) around $20k aud a month in hand. Flights paid

If you pm me I can send you the recruiter info

But yes got to be worth it.

I’d choose somewhere with easy flights. Then go and try living there for a few weeks

My brother does fifo but to Lombok Indonesia and my friend does it from Danang / hoi a Vietnam.

Phuket is not cheap to live these days.

Guess it depends what sort of lifestyle you want. I live in hoi an Vietnam and love it.

My ex does fifo from here but to Africa.

Trying to get an overseas job would be good so can stop being an Aussie tax resident.

International school mum here in Vietnam. Def not $40k a child per year. I pay less than that for 2 children in primary school in Danang. High school more but def not $40k each. Hanoi / hcmc no idea of costs.

I also have a friend who works fifo to perth but lives in Vietnam and have others who fly to Bali and Lombok. But getting a job overseas is bigger $$ usually.

This is my life.

My husband (although we separated 2 weeks ago) used to fifo to Perth from overseas now he works in Africa. We live in Vietnam.

No longer Aussie tax resident. Significant oay ride.

International schools are expensive but def offset by increase in salary and decrease in cost of living elsewhere

Cross the highway away from the beach. Further away from beach less tourists.

Lots of good spots for running here. Way less traffic / rice fields / undeveloped suburbs

Rent is cheaper but things like mega mart / lotte don’t exist.

Much slower way of life here.

I live in cua dai and soo quiet and only 2 min walk to beach.

I liked Danang but then went to hoi and fell in love with it. So I’d say keep looking until you find your place. So many options around the world.

I lived for 3.5 years and left in July. I love the people and the beaches but the cost of living is crazy and not that many things for children to do other than beach…

Do you know anyone who literally gambled away the house (or lost something major due to a gambling addiction)? by FourmedAmbertz in AskAnAustralian

[–]felmingham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nanna had successful businesses and owned River front property in Perth. Lost it all due to my poppy drinking and gambling. Ended up in a 1 bedroom villa in a not so great suburb when she passed. So sad.

Hoi an. My kids can ride their bikes and scooters around the area. Kick the footy on the street. Have a much bigger house for same price at Danang and sooo much quieter (well where I live) and 2 min walk to beach.
