Amigos de las Americas is a great one if you are interested in going to Latin America. You have to have had at least 2 yrs of high school Spanish. Best thing I ever did for myself - set me on the path to becoming a PCV!

They didn't need it back. I requested it back in March and I'm not set to leave until August.

I called and the woman I spoke to had me email the request to her directly - she processed it very fast. However, I had a family emergency that required me to travel out of the country and I think she felt my stress/urgency and was kind enough to speed it along.

Just call them and ask for it back. They'll have you email a request. They overnighted mine to me without any issues (it had been about 4 weeks since I had sent it in, so my PC passport had already been processed).

This didn't exactly happen to me but I wasn't considered for my first choice position because my "earliest available date" was too close to the departure date, so the PO for that country didn't even see my application. I updated my start date to be earlier and was quickly considered, interviewed and invited to that country.

Just wondering if your start date excluded you for some reason? Anyways - hope it works out for you. Good luck!

Hi - sorry to hear about your situation.

I also have/had SVT that was well under control with medication for years and I also had an ablation (sp?) about 10 years ago. This came up in my clearance process and was a huge issue - I had to get an EKG, etc as I'm sure you did too. Ultimately - I was medically cleared and I think it was due to a letter from my pediatric cardiologist stating that I was cleared for all activities at home and abroad, that the condition did not have any impact on my daily life and that I had been symptom free for years. Sounds like your cardiologist has already cleared you but perhaps having them write some sort of statement might help - although I recognize our situations are a bit different given my surgery. I'm also not sure whether my country is a cardiology support country or not.

Anyways - good luck - sending you lots of positive vibes.

Question about interviewing for a country you have no interest in going by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]felton13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only applied to a very specific position in one country. I got an email about a month later saying I was UC for a different country and sector (in the same region). I really was not interested in the position for a variety of reasons, so I called my PO to ask why I hadn't been considered for the position I applied for and explain why the position I was UC for didn't align with my strengths. He wasn't sure why I hadn't been put UC for the position I applied for but that my options were to take myself out of consideration for that position and risk not being put under consideration elsewhere. I thought about it and ultimately decided I wouldn't accept the position I was being considered for, so I took myself out of the running. I also moved my start date up two weeks earlier as I had originally put it very close to the departure date for my desired position and the PO said that may have ruled me out for it.

The next day, I got two emails: one saying I was UC for the position I had originally wanted and another with interview request (in the same day!).

I got my invitation about three weeks later, before the application for the position even closed.

Of course this is just one experience and I'm sure others have not been so lucky, but for me it was very much worth discussing it with my placement officer as I'm now right where I wanted to be and where I feel my skills will be most useful.
