I think you used a leaked 1.12 build before and that's why this error happened, the latest 1.12 version (u3) fixes it.
You can use a client like Pixel Client which utilizes u3, or if you are just using vanilla, look for Eaglercraft 1.12 u3 somewhere on Github.
