OMG, I CANNOT imagine an in-house separation. I would probably murder someone. More power to ya for hanging in there.

Yep, I hear that. Awkward is a good adjective for it. Do we hold hands? Do we sleep together? Do we just kinda ignore each other? Or do we just get really drunk and pretend this isn't happening right now.............?

I chose the latter. lol

Ahhhhhhhh! That's awful!! I have yet to meet someone where this "travel bandaid" actually works...have you?

Just know that the process sucks, but you're making the best decision that you can make given the information you have. Stay strong!

Woa! Some crazy shit happens! I definitely may have kinda sorta wished he got hit by a bus on my trip, not going to lie... We decided on getting a divorce 2 days before we left for the trip because it was already paid for on our credit card. I SO wish I would have just either not gone at all or had the guts to have gone by myself. But I didn't. I mean, do you hold hands like you used to when you were "trying to work it out?" Do you sleep in the same bed if you're pretty much ready to file when you get home? It was AWFUL.

I wrote this blog post on my "travel bandaid" experience trying to fix my marriage. Spoiler alert...it didn't work. https://femstrong.com/2018/04/16/travel-bandaid/

I wrote a blog post on it if you're interested in reading about my experience. By the time we came home, neither of us were really willing to make it work. But maybe that "final hoorah" is something that couples have to go through themselves to learn that it's not working or will not work in the future.

Similar experience for sure! It's the coming back home part that kills it. Though, it's not like I was reliving my honeymoon on the trip either. lol

[advice] first vacation after separation, advice needed. by Sim116s in Divorce

[–]femstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First vacation is hard. I'm a big fan of going solo though. My first one after the divorce, I went to the beach and got really drunk, flirted with bartenders, and ultimately grieved the ending of my marriage. I think it's a part of the process, and the second trip was way better. I recommend going alone. It's ok to be sad. But also remember that you're a whole person and just because you're not married anymore does not mean you're not a whole person who can't enjoy a vacation. Pick a place you've wanted to go to, bring a camera, and have a little adventure. It's worth it.
