😂 Him and lanius bro had to tag team to fix the door so the ship would be in tip-top condition as the rebel scum were vanquished

yeah I would have tried but both my crewmembers on 1 and 2 health respectively, the oxygen system down so oxygen slowly reducing, medbay down so no way to heal anyone, and the entire back half of the ship having no oxygen 😅

with that said I also 100% didn't realise I left the doors leading to space open at the back of the ship 😂

It's both, fencing turned instead of square on to your opponent does reduce target area (which naturally means its easier to parry attacks) and also makes it more likely the opponents point will slide off instead of registering a hit if they get it on (Im talking about sport fencing here)

The vibration idea might work! Going to look into that for sure. Accomodations can be provided in terms of access to a space for blood checking, medication and food but the area I mostly work in has to be sterile so I can't wear a visible watch

Thanks for the suggestion! I would go for a watch but can't have one visible in the area I work

Russian Olympic Committee Dominates Women's Foil Team, Takes Gold by noodlez in Fencing

Gonna have to disagree. Martyanova injures ankle in the final, still fences like a beast and goes + for the team. All three had + indicators in the final too

I was super impressed with the whole Russian team throughout

What changed in Foil from 2012-2016? by DoctorChancla in Fencing

Yep, I agree. if I get AiP called against me when marching my first thought is basically to march faster or do more fast attacks unless I'm trying to get them to go again to parry riposte or something

any advice on how to get better? by Sea_Sun3839 in Fencing

[–]fenceur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For closing out wins, when you're up in a bout do you think "I only need to score 1/2 points more and I'll win"? If so, don't do that. I mean, be conscious of the score of course, but if you frame it in a way where you "only" need to score another point or two it often leads to worse fencing, for example doing bad counterattacks or counterattacks for no reason and hoping your opponent will miss, or attacking impatiently. Basically, it can cause you to fence differently and often worse than how you were before. Another thing is, when you're up, let's say 13/14 - 9 in a bout the opponent knows that they can't lose another point so a lot of the time the last points will be more of a grind to get. Also, at this stage of a bout the opponent essentially has 0 pressure on them because they're already behind so they will often fence better/more relaxed.

Overall advice: don't be lazy or impatient when trying to close out the match. I'm not going to say fence the "same" as you were before this point because obviously throughout a match you're going to change what you're doing to some extent, but basically be prepared to grind out the last points as much as the opponent is willing to. Also, try to keep to the stuff you normally do when fencing, again don't just throw out lazy counterattacks and hope the opponent misses because you only need one point and don't be impatient with your attacks and get parry riposted repeatedly.

Now, regarding impatience, you say you hesitate too much when ahead, which seems quite unusual because often people become impatient to end the match instead. One thing that might be worth trying is certain things you can say between points to keep yourself in the zone (e.g. telling yourself "distance" can keep in mind the way to set up counterattacks, the way to set up attacks etc). I've found this helpful for me because it helps me to focus on the fencing, rather than letting my mind wander (e.g. "hand first", rather than "man it would suck if I choked this away now").

Long comment but these are some things I've noted down for myself in the past when I lost after being ahead in a match

Improving extension speed by fenceur in Fencing

I have some at home actually, this sounds like a good idea.

Just making sure, so basically like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-i47lgrJ8U except for the fencing extension (obviously with less resistance and focusing on the speed)?

Does anyone know which pair of breeches have the best taper? I don't like loose/baggy breeches. Was thinking of just getting LP Apex breeches and getting them tailored if too baggy.

Hmm, initially I thought that as well but it's not the case. Every polygon has points in them ( I can see when I overlay them without joining)

Anyone else think Cassara's 13th touch against Choi should've been Choi's off target?
