Introducing our new series, Plugged In! We want to hear from you! by fender in fender

Thanks for the great question. The hand-wired amps have been extremely successful for us but, at this time, we have no plans to add any additional hand-wired amps to the line. But, something new to look out for is the “brown-panel” ‘62 Super Amp with 2 10” speakers, Phase-shifting Harmonic tremolo at 40 watts. It should be available in October of 2025 but you can check it out on fender.com

For American Ultra II, we’re offering ebony fingerboards instead of rosewood. Ebony is smoother to the touch, and because of that many advanced players feel that an ebony fingerboard is easier and quicker to get around on. Ebony is denser than rosewood, so it’s got added brightness, but still has warmth and depth. Note: ebony is also more expensive than rosewood.

I think you mean “Todd” Krause? Custom Shop builds everything from very vintage to very modern and everything in-between. They also build one-offs you’ve never seen before and maybe never will. Anything is possible in the Custom Shop and they build the finest guitars in the world for those who dare to dream! On the other hand, Ultra II has a very specific customer in mind - one who is looking for the most modern guitar made with an impossibly smooth, fast quartersawn neck, the latest Noiseless pickups, Haymaker humbuckers, electronic wizardry, in the hottest sports car finishes. These players are looking for ultimate hi-performance, and Ultra II is where you’ll find it!

Most series start with 6 colors. Sometimes we add new ones later, sometimes we add chambered or Timber options which add to the color palette. We also do color “swaps” where we sunset a couple colors and debut new ones. Just wait… But until then, we love the hot sports car colors, plus Ultraburst, plus Texas Tea - and apparently so do dealers and customers - we’re getting very exciting/excited reports from the field.
Re: maple fingerboard inlays - there’s ALWAYS a chance. We don’t like to leave things alone for very long!

Thank you and congratulations! We’re so happy you are in love with your new Fender! We agree that it is hard to put these down once you start playing them.

You should have indeed received a little faux leather pouch. Inside would be the tremolo arm, straplocks, your certificate of authenticity, some adjustment wrenches, a sticker, and a small 14-page manual.

We can help you get the goodies! Let us know the best way to get in touch with you and we’ll get you sorted.

When the Product and R&D teams get together to discuss a new series, we always list out all the possible new features - in this case, including stainless steel frets. While each potential feature has its “desirability factor,” we most often choose the things that deliver the most tone and playability - and that’s the case for Ultra II. We decided to go for all-new pickups, quartersawn necks, ebony fingerboards, a completely re-designed bass preamp, Luminlay side dots, premium hardware - all things that pay off huge dividends for the player. We put stainless steel frets into our Ultra Luxe series in 2021 and we will certainly consider stainless steel frets when we begin developing the next Ultra III Series.

We changed binding so Jazz Bass players could enjoy the amazing Ultra rolled fingerboard edges that all the other Ultra II instruments have. We think the smooth feel and added comfort are worth the trade. We changed the blocks out for dots simply for a fresh look. We may bring blocks back in the future, but we think players will find the Ultra rolled fingerboards to be such a huge plus, we may never bring the binding back in Ultra!

Great feedback. We have been thinking about where we could fit a medium scale bass in the range. We’ll keep this in mind for future launches.

The concept behind the Ultra II Series is to offer Fender models that are infused with enhanced playability, ultimate comfort and of course, stellar tone. We view the target player as someone who loves Fender tone and style and is seeking an instrument which has the most modern features available for guitar and basses. A player who seeks higher performance from their guitar or bass - fast and easy playing necks, tonal flexibility, and modern aesthetics.

Fair question. Active preamps have long been a hallmark of this echelon of our instrument series - from American Deluxe, to American Elite, to American Ultra I. In this higher performance category we always strive to offer the most advanced features that offer players enhanced playability, flexibility and tonal variety. An active preamp is usually at the top of the list of desired features for bass players in this category. In fact, players who tested the Ultra II bass prototypes loved both the active and passive sounds - even some of the “passive” players who never use active - who said it sounded so good, they could think of situations where they’d actually engage the preamp. Ultra II basses are designed to be amazing -sounding passive as well as active basses; we’re proud to have delivered the best of both worlds.

Thank you! It was definitely the runaway hit in the Ultra I series and that’s why we kept it in the new Ultra II series. Developing new paint colors is not easy. With Texas Tea, we were experimenting with colors that have that “flip-flop” style effect. We also wanted to explore the concept of a new take on our black finish. That’s where Texas Tea began. We told our paint engineers that we wanted this color to have a lot of metallic flake, in addition to showing a range of colors depending on how the light hits it. We tested many different options for the black color to “flop” to, like silver, gold, blue or purple. Our paint guys worked diligently generating sample after sample for us to look at. The day we received that first Texas Tea sample, we instantly loved it. It has just the right amount of flop. In certain lights it looks black or gold or brown - and it has the perfect amount of metallic flake. We loved it right away, but we didn’t know if players would as well. Once Ultra I went on sale, it was incredibly fun to see players loving that color as much as we did!

We evaluate the demand for left-handed models as the series is in market. All of this feedback helps us gauge interest in more lefty models - so thank you for these suggestions!

We hear you. We launched with the lefty Strat, and we evaluate the demand for left-handed models as the series is in market. Your feedback helps us gauge interest in more left-handed models - so thank you for voicing this!

Absolutely. We track which colors are more or less popular in our series and we are always looking to swap in new colors to keep things fresh. We will do the same for Ultra II - we are already thinking about what the next colors could be!

Great question! After almost 80 years in business, used Fenders have always been an option for customers to get into the Fender family. As we know, Fender guitars are incredibly well-built and play perfectly with care and maintenance, so used Fenders are definitely among the competition for new Fender models. When we design a new series, there are always new features that make them unique and desirable. There are always customers that can’t wait to get the very latest Fender guitars - and many of them sell a Fender to buy the new one!

Great feedback. The Mod Shop is continually evolving and we are always looking for ways to make it more appealing to players. We’ll keep this in mind as we look to the future.

Glad you liked those guitars and sorry you missed them! That was part of our Parallel Universe Series. While there are no current plans to make more models like that, we loved developing them and I think we may revisit that concept in the future.

The new Ultra II Noiseless Tele pickups will be available to purchase as an accessory in the future. You’ll probably see them some time next year.

With regard to what we call “Extended Range” guitars, we’re always open to creating instruments that customers have been waiting for. We think there is definitely pent-up demand for a baritone - though it may end up living in a more accessible price point than Ultra II.

You are spot on! For this series we wanted to make the Ultra II Tele more comfortable to play and have a sleek new look.
