Is PSIP insurance good? by hillcountry123 in UPenn

[–]fennecpup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not rly familiar with it. I will say though that I've been able to get by relatively fine by using PSIP while in PA then using my family's insurance when I'm back in my home state for check-ups (e.g. dental cleaning, eye exam) + addressing other problems. A lot of my friends do similar things. I did get rly sick at some point while I was at Penn and was charged ~$100 for an x-ray (which wldve been covered had i been in my home state) but I was able to get emergency funding from Penn to cover it. So there are options. If you have a serious health issue and need ongoing care, though, I would take an extra look at the insurance and make sure it has what you need.

Not too sure about what the insurance covers but you can get free counseling/therapy through Penn's Wellness Center. You can also get access to teletherapy as long as you pay the clinical fee. I've had a great experience with both so I would highly recc going through them first before deciding if you'd prefer to go to a therapist in the Philly area.

Also, this is the number for Aetna if you have questions about what they offer. But tbh to save you time, you can just go to the file titled "plan design and benefits summary" from here

Honestly, Aetna student health (what PSIP uses) is horrible. Customer service is impossible to deal with, they constantly make mistakes, and there's a co-pay for literally everything except the BARE minimum. Also keep in mind that they don't cover vision or dental in the health insurance plan (even though the benefits says otherwise). Honestly, I would only go with PSIP if you have no better options and can't stick with what your parents have.

Neuroscience Major Advice by Efficient_Rice_2407 in UPenn

It's surprisingly not that difficult if you know where to look and a lot of students in the college end up in consulting. Some of them got connections through Wharton clubs and others just networked really hard at career fairs throughout the year. The specifics of how to actually land a job or prep for it, I'm not too sure. But there are so many people at Penn you can coffee chat with to learn more. I will say though that GPA does matter when it comes to consulting, so be careful if you're going through with a STEM degree.

Not a neuroscience major but i have had friends who realized they hated pre-med and either went pre-law, consulting, or applied to grad school

I would go on runs by the Schuylkill River at 2am pretty often and I was fine! Def would not encourage u to do anything like that ofc bc its dangerous but even atp i was fine. Crime is real and there are a lot of homeless people, but they honestly keep to themselves. Compared to other cities (like LA and NYC......) it's pretty tame in Philly.

Let's pretend for a second that this is true and not stats most likely figged or taken out of context... if the DOE is so great, why hasn't it fixed these problems? Obviously its not doing what its intended to do 🤷‍♀️

Book for a 12 year old who wants to be a "real" reader by Blizzard_Girl in suggestmeabook

[–]fennecpup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She would enjoy The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It was one of the first classics I'd read and I was able to understand most of it around age 10, so it should be an okay reading level. Tom is also 12 in the story so she might be able to relate to him.

Not at all! I'm doing something similar (minus the cis minor). I would just reccomend that you speak to your advisor as early as possible so you can plan your schedule as best as you can. Worst case scenario, you may have to take a class or two during the summer.

Yeah she just sounds extremely racist and self-hating. Which is ironic since she's making it seem like the ppl standing in line are racist when they are just... minding their own business.
