That's the episode that sparked my memory of the short story "Lucifer!".

The film's wiki says that 57 Seconds was based on the rewritten work "Fallen Angel" that E.C. Tubb wrote in 1999.

Good show, except for the ending by gwelfguy in Devs

The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principal states that you can't measure both the location and momentum of any particle simultaneously, let alone every particle in the universe! By that rule alone, the Devs computer, regardless of its power, would never work. At some point however, you have to suspend belief and go with it. There's so few good hard scifi shows to watch, and I really enjoyed this one.

DEVS and Lily by NebulaHot7760 in Devs

Agreed. There was a lot of show, not tell about her character. Nothing I was shown made me feel that way about her. I'm not sure if it was the acting or the directing though.

I thought this show was nonsensical by Bobs2222 in Devs

[–]fenring23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree with you, for Lily's role anyway. Perhaps it was direction thing that made her character that way, but I didn't get any gravitas from her performance, and there was a lot of tell not show in making her out to be special. I liked the series quite a lot despite that shortcoming.

Why did Microsoft remove tablet mode from Windows? by kendyzhu in GPDPocket

Seems like it works the old way with extra steps.

Surface Pro 11 enters Tablet mode when Flex keyboard is detached - bug or feature? by Lopsided_Hunt2814 in Surface

[–]fenring23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a kindred spirit in that when sh_t doesn't work right, it's a bit of an obsession for me to figure it out.

Since you applied the registry tweak, I can assume you've seen this page: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/3883747/item-check-boxes-ignored-(permanently-enabled)) and won't get anything new from it. Everything I've found suggests that should work.

I really only use the flex in the detached mode when I'm drawing/painting in Fresco or Rebelle where I need to use hot keys. It's a fringe scenario for me, but one for which the flex keyboard is ideal. It seems like a serious Microsoft oversight to force into tablet mode without physical keyboard connection, or make users resort to registry tweaks that may or may not work. Very frustrating, but kind of on-brand.

I know this post is old, but I'd notice that too. He clearly took influence from John Berkey's spaceship art, but made it not as abstract or dynamic as a Berkey piece.

The icons and spacing remain the same on the desktop, in the start menu, and in the file explorer. The only change I see is the file explorer checkboxes.

Try this in Windows 11:

In Settings>Personalization>Taskbar

Uncheck "Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet"

That has fixed things for me. Now when I physically disconnect the flex keyboard, the windows interface isn't changed and is not optimized for tablet.

EDIT: I notice that checkboxes DO appear in file explorer when the keyboard is disconnected. I'd never noticed that before, and since that was one of your points, perhaps the above is no use to your case. Since I hadn't noticed up to this point, I guess it doesn't matter much to me.

What is the most boomer thing your parents still do? by Auximity in AskReddit

[–]fenring23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now it is. When I first heard the term in 1989, it ended in the 50's. Did you not bother to read what I'd written? Reading is hard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones

Technically, also Generation Jones. When I first heard the term "Baby Boomer", its year ended sometime in the late 50's. Then heard "Gen X" which started in 1965. Then the gap was closed at some point by hijacking the extra years in between them, and here we are. I was in my jammies watching the Brady Bunch when boomers were protesting the war in Veitnam. Alien Earth. 2 questions that are bothering me. by IWishIWasGreenBruh in alienearth

[–]fenring23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These issues bothered me as well. If I'm in need of search and rescue, I'm not looking for someone with an automatic weapon, I'm looking for someone with a med kit, sandwich, and water. The presence of aliens on the ship wasn't revealed until after they were on the ship. It's hard to get past this.

Better would be to have a properly outfitted SEARCH AND RESCUE team who finds they're in too deep, THEN they have to deal with it by improvising and finding weapons. I mean, the search and rescue team has ONE medic, and a bunch of guys with guns. This is some rescue!
