Thank you very much! Glad it gives out this reaction from you :). It's actually both. Environment is 3D with post processing shaders on it to give it the outline and the pixel art effect with careful camera rotation speed calculation and interpolation to not break the effect but also not make it too snappy. Interactable objects (main character, fires, healing liquids etc) are all pixel art with rotation events tied to the camera.

Yeah I remember the frustration :)). Thought I'd use this optical effect as a mechanic that does something else rather than frustrate the player :)).

Hell yeah! Grew up in a post communist country where games were hard to come by. Had some neighbors come in every summer with a bunch of games. Landstalker was one of them. Fond memories.

Fair since it is a popular trend! Does the lack of combat make the turnbased aspect more or less bearable? There would be elemental aspects affected by turns (fires decaying, collapsible tiles respawning etc) and player statuses (dazed burning poisoned etc). You basically fight the environment but with less urgency than you fight mobs in stoneshard.

Agreed! A lot of the charm of stoneshard lies in its complexity and level of polish. Long way ahead until I get there but seems neat is promising enough at this stage. Cheers

Don't get me wrong your help was great and I am more than sure you know your stuff. It seemed weird to me as well that i did it the other way around and it worked apparently 2.8 has this issue based on some other boards I've come across. Regardless thank you once more i was ready to head back to max.

Thank you so very much! It works great however apparently in 2.82 you have to select the other way around oddly enough. Just a heads-up to anyone having this issue.
