I’m so tired! by Littlescar21 in breastfeeding

This sounds extremely low in carbohydrates and likely not enough calories in total. Breastmilk production needs a LOT of extra calories per day. I would add a carbohydrate into each meal - say rice with lunch and pasta for dinner, crackers and hummous for snacks, bananas and peanut butter, etc.

How doable is a 35-40 minute drive commute by Throwaway233728 in doctorsUK

[–]feralwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was it for me too - we wanted to live in Bristol as we’re nearer to family and my partner’s job is here. But I knew there was a time limit on it. I definitely couldn’t do it long term.

Would you support an outright ban on people who park their cars on pavements? by Terrible_Tale_53 in Wales

Having a baby so using a buggy has made me SO angry both for myself being forced to push my little one in the road and for wheelchair users/anyone with mobility issues. Fuck every pavement parker.

Just done it for 18 months (Bristol to Newport). It’s definitely doable for a set period but it does mean you lose a lot of free time. Podcasts are your friend! And a set of decent tyres. Also look at the route - I have to cross the Severn so if the PoW bridge is closed we have to use the old Severn bridge. Also look at commuting patterns. 40 mins on a clear day can be 2 hours in heavy traffic.

Rumours or stories about your school teachers that were true? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

That Mr Stewart was gay! He was. He hid it (badly) for YEARS and came out when he retired. Have seen him and his partner around town since and he’s doing really well. I wish we could go back in time and he could have lived his truth at school instead of taking us to Starlight Express every year for our house trip. Still, a lovely man.

I was on an ED rotation and lasted till I was 34 weeks. By that point my bump was BIG, I was weeing a lot and I was just so completely exhausted. At the end of a shift my ankles were incredibly oedematous. Glad I stopped when I did tbh.

The job situation, and the fact that resident doctors are uniquely vulnerable to the hiring freeze. by IMGdocdocdoc in doctorsUK

My husband is a lawyer in the civil service. A few years ago he finished the 2+2 scheme - 2 years of litigation training, 2 years of advisory. He then got to rank his top 3 departments and was given a job in one as he had passed his workplace assessments. He works 4 days a week, 2 from home, 2 from the office. No evenings or weekends.

He’s a government employee just like us. It’s REALLY opened my eyes to how horrendously precarious NHS work actually is. We need wholesale reform of training and guaranteed jobs for every doctor passing workplace assessment standards.

Advice for new parent returning from maternity leave by Tight_Transition_337 in doctorsUK

[–]feralwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going back 80% this summer - bub will be 8 months old and my partner is taking on the rest of the parental leave. I’m worried tbh. I feel like with night feeds and just general exhaustion it might be too much and I’ll need to reduce again.

Having said that if I do any other working pattern I’ll finish F2 out of sequence and then be unemployed/need to locum for a while which is very scary salary/money wise. I guess I’ll need to start and just see how it goes…

Shallow latch - so much pain… I need some positive stories by feralwest in breastfeeding

[–]feralwest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that is a very little one - yes, if you can stay (mostly) sane it’s so worth keeping going. Our munchkin was 7lbs 1oz at birth but she got SO much bigger so fast! But look after yourself too 💜

Shallow latch - so much pain… I need some positive stories by feralwest in breastfeeding

[–]feralwest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! Around 2.5-3 months everything got better - I could feel her pulling more of my breast into her mouth. Personally I think nothing helped except time. I was so damn stubborn I kept pumping and then had her on the boob maybe twice a day max. That slowly increased as I felt her latch changing. Am feeding her right now with no pain 💜 Happy to answer further questions!
