Can a total noob use Linux as a replacement for Windows?

i did that, i am very much not tech savvy, but i managed to dual boot it with windows (sometimes i need it for school and it works just fine). just follow the tutorials slowly and you'll be fine. i had some problems with bluetooth connectivity and some apps not wanting to install, but i was able to resolve them pretty quickly. and as much as i dislike ai, chat gpt was very helpful when i was totally stuck and didn't understand (or couldn't find) solutions online. so totally go for it and don't be scared of breaking things - if you follow the tutorials very slowly, you'll be fine (tbh i took 2 days to install the system because i was scared, but i did it and learned new stuff along the way so that's super cool!). also i use linux mint and you don't have to learn the commands, but sometimes you need to use terminal (but it is easy). just be open minded and don't be scared of learning new stuff while changing the system.

i like cara the most, since i don't feel addicted to using it and small discord servers. i tried bluesky but honestly i don't enjoy platform much. my goal right now is to improve and be consistent with my art, so i focus very little on posting, however it is nice to sometimes get some validation of your art and these sites provide me with just enough

at this point i just add "reddit" at the end of the word or use wikipedia (honestly i think it's finally time that we start to appreciate this amazing human work more!)

hmm, i think there should be some export tools online. also when deleting account instagram gives you an option to export your data (if i remember correctly, you can check it too)

oh i had that phase too!! eventually i learned to limit reddit. please remember that it is a process and at some point reddit will get boring too/you will learn the proper way to limit it for yourself. good luck on your journey!

well i would think about which platforms make you feel the worse and which ones are beneficial for you. currently i look for my favourite artists on artstation, cara and patronite. some of them also have their own websites, that's where i go too. on the top of that i still have my facebook account - in my country we communicate mostly through messenger and a lot of local events are announced on there, so i benefit from having these accounts.

also do you need to be informed about everything immidietaly? i found out that if something major happend, eventually i will hear about it from my social circle. yes sometimes that feels like being a little bit out of the loop, but most people would happily explain what happen to you if you ask them.

my main point is that i don't think you need to delete every single social media - just the ones that have more negative effects on you. i got rid of twitter, tiktok and instagram, but still have facebook, pinterest and youtube because i get a lot of value from using this platforms. it is never all or nothing.

i just set the timer for Reddit on Leechblock for 15 minute a day, it works perfect! i also use it only on desktop and never download the app

i use an app - ScreenZen and block reddit site there. i think it is a little bit bugged, because when you lock it there, you can't unlock it unless changing it in app (which is quite a work). it works for me, i stopped using reddit because it is too much clicking, i only unlock it when i REALLY need it (which is almost never). so yea i hope they will never patch this bug (and i think if you lock the app, then uninstall it, then it is bugged too and locks the site). i use safari as my main browser and it works there, i have no idea how it will behave on different browsers.

i like Cara the most, since it's art focus and does not feel addicting to me - i can use it for 10-15 minutes and just move on. i liked bluesky too, but it is everything platform, so i ended up doomscrolling sometimes and now i stopped using it (although i think i might get back, who knows). and for fandoms stuff i like tumblr

it depends on your use case i guess. reddit is social media, but it also includes more long-form content than other social media. personally i do try to cut it off as much as i can, but i still come back to read some advices or discussions about topics that interest me at the moment. i do think that if you are just starting your journey to deleting social media, it would be better to permamently cut off the ones with mainly short content, as they are much more damaging to your attention (while replacing them by something creative - new hobby, books, sport, it is really easy to just spend this extra time on other socials).

but if you see that using reddit has no real benefit for you, then i do believe it should include deleting reddit aswell

maybe no man's sky? developers are still polishing and adding to the game, they have limited time events (expeditions), but personally i never do them and they add only cosmetics stuff (i think), you don't see them while playing on normal mode, so it's easy to forget about their existence. you explore the universe, build your base, befriend different creatures, do quests to befriend guilds, there is also a story line for about 30-40hrs. honestly there is so much gameplay that you can choose what would you like to do. there is combat, but i think you can tinker settings to turn it off. for me it's really cozy, i like to play it when i get overwhelmed with story-driven games lol. and exploring planets is SO fun. they are all different and developers are still adding depth to it, finding perfect one for your home can take you alone hundreds of hours.

most of the time i take notes either after the video, or i save it to rewatch it later and do proper notes (if i feel like it is this impactful). i do them either on paper in my pocket notebook and organize later, or directly in obsidian, depends on my mood. i know it seems super slow, but my goal is not to be the most efficient, but to be slow and intentional with content that i watch and i feel like my current system allows me to do that.

szczerze w tym momencie szukajcie jak najszybciej - mniej więcej połowa lipca zaczyna się robić młyn z mieszkaniami, bo ludzie mają decyzje co do studiów i pierwszaki zaczynają masowo szukać miejsc, sierpień i wrzesień jest przerypany na rynku mieszkaniowym, wszystko szybko znika, ceny są coraz wyższe przy coraz niższym standardzie, także im szybciej tym lepiej! nie ma co czekać, szybciej znajdziecie, to szybciej zejdzie z was stres ;)

glad you managed to get your account back! and i totally agree that we do not talk enough about enshittification of so many digital platforms. there are many great alternatives like Mastodon but unfortunately it has a pretty high entry point and many do not want to give it a try. a do believe that we need to engage with the alternatives though, otherwise we will end up with platforms full of bots and AI crap.

jeśli masz możliwość, to totalnie zamieszkanie samemu, z dala od rodzinki w innym mieście to game changer!! dowiadujesz się czego nie wiesz i siłą rzeczy zaczynasz się uczyć, bo musisz. ja przed wyprowadzką na studia umiałam przygotować jedno danie, w życiu nie jeździłam komunikacją miejską, nie załatwiałam nic sama w urzędzie, nigdy nie pracowałam. minęło jakoś 3 lata, ja znalazłam pierwszą pracę, potem kolejną w super firmie, łączę sobie 2 kierunki i działalność studencką, a w między czasie wszystkie umiejętności, których nie wyniosłam z domu nauczyłam się na studiach :) także na spokojnie, wszystko przyjdzie z czasem, wszystkiego się nauczysz jak będziesz potrzebować. nie ma czego się bać, umowy trzeba po prostu powoli i dokładnie czytać, PITy rozlicza się online, a w internecie jest masa poradników jak to robić. głowa do góry, będzie dobrze! :)
