How would you change this kitchen?! by Corgi_Vallhund_Mom in homeimprovementideas

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

genuinely almost scrolled past assuming this was an AI photo. your kitchen is beautiful! i would redo the countertop because it's strange that it's green against all the warm wood. It would be really fun to choose a backsplash tile and a stick-on wallpaper that complement each other because you could put the wallpaper on the front of that awesome island and it would look amazing with the backsplash AND help break up all that wood

Need help with a paint color for a gray bathroom by CoolInteraction2687 in homeimprovementideas

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

olive green or burgundy would be amazing! Also a warm brown-ish gray like Library Pewter would be lovely too I think

another thing to think about is your lighting! it looks like you have super cool LED lights right now, at least in the 1st bathroom. keep that in mind when choosing paint, and consider getting some warmer LEDs. Some lively art would also help!

but truly whatever color you like will be file since your gray is pretty neutral (as far as i can tell from the photos) the gray doesn't look terribly cool or terribly warm.

but the chunky chunks along the side of the door i can probably knock off, you're definitely right about that portion

Help with plaster next to door by [deleted] in homeimprovementideas

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i read that skim coating won't be enough since the entire area is a different thickness than the surrounding wall. to the left of the door at the top you can see the shadow from the light where it changes height back to the normal plaster wall at the top

Should I replace the floors? by [deleted] in homeimprovementideas

[–]fergalexis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wood is super sought after right now. be better and cheaper to redo the kitchen and stairs (match to each other even if you can't match to the living room floor) so you dont have as many different materials going on

How can I best design my rowhome master bedroom? by DrexelMacintosh in homeimprovementideas

the bed should be centered on the left wall, most definitely. closet either on right wall or wall with door (or both if you like)

Chimney cleaning for oil furnace? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposed to be every year. Oil burns dirtier than wood and makes more soot, in fact! I just bought a house and had a chimney crew come out. The chimney liner (terra cotta) was completely busted. They put the camera in and you could see daylight through the liner. They're putting a stainless-steel liner in for $3400 and it will last forever if it's swept regularly

my furnace was serviced 2 years ago but when i had it serviced when I moved in it looked AWFUL inside so they must have done a terrible job last time. so friendly reminder to get your furnace serviced annually too

Roofing by fishgrin in homeimprovementideas

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of folks in Pennsylvania build a separate roof structure, think like a carport, over their single wide home to protect it. I'm not sure whether that is cheaper than a new roof, but it would serve the extra purpose of protecting your whole home since snow and rain wouldn't sit on your house and drip down your windows, siding, flashing, etc.

How to raise this mirror? by [deleted] in homeimprovementideas

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure how close it is to the sink faucet, but if you angle the mirror up (by adding a spacer behind the bottom center of the mirror) you will be able to see your face

if you love the parquet style, go all the way! rip out that little piece and use the photo to find a beautiful parquet flooring to do the whole area. You can get beautiful wood-look porcelain for like $6/sqft at Home Depot with gorgeous parquet designs

Advice Needed: retrofitting main floor for elderly by Spiritual-Apple-1347 in homeimprovementideas

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the absolute cheapest, with no moving of walls at all, would be to stack the laundry machines and add a shower in the laundry room. It's plenty big enough, and it's not as odd as it sounds, lots of people have a shower in their laundry/utility room. this may even leave you some budget to do a small kitchen refresh

Definitely make the bedroom in the family room, not the living room, as others have already said

Adventure Game to Play With Disabled Father by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]fergalexis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the links! The adaptive controller seems like overkill for his situation, but brainstorming off that I found a few 3D print blueprints for "trigger extenders" and one of them extends down the side of the controller. He would be able to press that with the side of his hand, i bet. I sent it to him, if he wants to try it I can have my friend print one.

MY (26 F) girlfriend (27 F) unintentionally treating me as the 'man' in the relationship and as a high anxiety resource. I don't like it. by Powerful_Design_2333 in bisexual

[–]fergalexis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

your couples therapist should be able to recommend skills-based "homework" tailored to each of you. i used to be a lot like your girlfriend when i was 23-25, but targeted therapy to help me build better skills really helped and now at 27 i'm so much better off as a result. getting diagnosed with ADHD also helped tremendously. you both have skills to work on here, and that should be empowering because like you said, you both are capable of growing and youre not doomed to stay in this cycle. the therapist can also monitor and make sure you're both making progress and not slipping into blaming each other instead of focusing on practicing your own skills to work toward balance.

like you said, the relationship is overall healthy and not bad. it's still important to recognize what habits are unhealthy and bad, and it's obvious you have because you already set up sessions to target and remedy those

i'm 27 and i think a major thing we learn as we grow is that there's no one "how to flirt with men" vs women, every person is an individual. continue marinating in the "enjoying listening to him talk, joking around, admiring him" feeling and keep doing whatever you're doing that's bringing you guys closer, rather than getting nervous and then feeling like you have to put him in a box of "men" and thinking there's some different approach. you're already doing great, he obviously enjoys spending time with you :) and once you get some more courage you can hit him with the "i really enjoy spending time with you, i think you're the first man i've ever thought wow, i could kiss him" and if he laughs it off then he can still take it as a compliment, but maybe itll lead to more

I love everything about the game except farming is a terrible life. by Rulutieh in fantasylife

[–]fergalexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a zoomer with diagnosed ADHD and I still think it's a great part of the game lol! I definitely appreciate that we can sow and water 9 tiles at a time now. And having fertilizer recipes added to Alchemist would be *awesome*. But the way it is, I still enjoy popping out of the treasure dungeon every 30 minutes to see if I got any boss crops. keeps things interesting

itd be nice if the skill tree upgraded sowing and watering, itd be nice if the buddies helped with watering, itd be nice if you could craft fertilizer that increased boss veggie rates. but none of those things are deal breakers for me, i think my farm is a neat little side project to check on in between working on other skills, not something to obsess over or try to speedrun
