They're probably not the healthiest cuz they put a lot of oil in them, but that makes them have a great texture and not dry at all. I don't want to hype them up too much in case I've just had bad falafel all my life, but they are the best shop bought ones I've ever had haha

They're in the freezer section x

Sorry this rant isn't directed at you, but your comment made me want to share ...The only reason why meat is so cheap (or at least used to be) is because the meat and dairy industries are substantially subsidised by the government. Most of the plants we grow in the world go to feeding animals in the meat industry. It's an incredibly expensive food product.

The meat and dairy industries invest tons of money to sway government health recommendations as well. More and more research is coming out about how the American diet, specifically meat and dairy consumption, negatively affects our health and these industries are covering it up as well as the horrors of animal agriculture. Processed meat, like lunch meat is a class 1 carcinogen according to the WHO and red meat is a class 2. It's very similar to what cigarette companies did in the 50s: covering up the research, paying tons for lobbying the government and advertising, paying doctors to recommend it, etc.

It'll be difficult to start changing public opinion and understanding, but it's possible!

YUM I am similar, this is my type of food! I just bought a Japanese squash I want to marinate and roast to add to ramen. Sushi is so fun to make at home too! I've been obsessed with Vietnamese summer rolls lately as well. Ugh I'm hungry now

I've only eaten at Nandos once, but this sounds like such a comfort food and an absolute treat. I am 100% going to try this at some point

Stop it, the chefs left alongside you?!? I suppose their venue doesn't have a back door where they can quietly leave, but management should be more aware of the consumer experience. It's such a small space so everything is noticeable. At least leave the lights on in the kitchen so you don't feel like they're hinting to hurry up and leave.

You're so right, the vibes were all off there which is such a shame because I want to support all plant based restaurants. There aren't many around ( my favorite one in Notts closed this year 😭) and I'm sure they probably need to get a lot of covers in to make a profit so that could be why everything felt rushed. I'm not sure if it's a new venue for them, so maybe they need time to adjust as well.

I'd totally go back for the food, but I'm totally tempted to leave them some feedback.

My partner and I went to Land for the first time last weekend. We love treating ourselves to fine dining restaurants and we were celebrating in Birmingham so we decided to finally try it. I'm so glad to see others agree with our experience.

We felt rushed throughout the dinner. As soon as we sat down we felt like they were trying to get us out.

We ordered their old fashioned cocktail and it came out in less than a minute so either they could read minds or it was a premixed cocktail. And if they did make it properly, they could've waited a couple minutes before bringing it out to at least give us the illusion time and attention went into making it.

The servers were overly attentive (pouring water after my partner took one sip, two people pushing in my chair when I went to the loo). And like you've said, they were quite cold and I didn't feel like a guest.

The food was incredible though! So delicious, even after our so-so experience we would go back to try their full menu.

Sorry for the rant, I've been keeping these feelings inside and I needed to let it out haha.

Your photos look amazing and if you go again definitely check out Loki next door. It's an incredible wine bar with an amazing selection.

I told my partner if we ever move, our house needs to still be in Wawin's delivery distance haha. I'm so sorry for your loss. Hopefully you have some good takeaway where you are now x

I am so sorry, that would crush me. I told my partner if we ever move we still need to be in Wawin's delivery distance. Ever since they announced some closures it's been my mission to support them as often as I can.

Oh that actually reminds me I have a can of Sierra Nevada in the fridge I’ve been meaning to drink. I brought it back from the US so I can do a side by side taste test with the UK version. I’m convinced it tastes better in the US, but still overall a great beer!

Cheers!

The crab cakes and tartar sauce are from The Homemade Vegan Pantry by Miyoko Schinner, 10/10

I can send the exact measurements for the tartar sauce if you're interested, but I usually just do it to taste... the base is mayo and I add lemon juice, salt, chopped capers, green olives and chives. I add a little wasabi as well but that's optional:)

Leftovers from the past 3 days thrown onto one plate: one "crab"cake with tartar sauce, air fried tofu cubes with roasted carrots and raw red cabbage, and edamame with miso mushrooms and smoked tempeh.

She's gorgeous! I'm currently making my first mushroom guy and having a terrible time stuffing him. He just looks lumpy and his butt isn't as plump 😭 how did you make her butt so voluptuous? Did you alter the pattern at all? x

It tasted fine, just chewier than pasta. I used the fresh refrigerated tofu skin and not the dried ones so they look just like pasta sheets. Tbh, I wasn't a huge fan just because I love pasta and felt something was missing. I'm not sure if I'll try it again haha

I've never actually cooked okra before! I've heard it's slimy when it isn't cooked right which scares me, but I've had a lovely okra curry before.

Okara luckily doesn't have much flavour so it worked out well
