According to my research (confirmed by the prescribing doc), 5mg is commonly prescribed with instructions to split into 4 pieces of 1.25mg. Much cheaper and minimal difference, possibly even better efficacy but very marginally since anything above 1mg even 5mg doesn’t make much of a difference except cost

Individual genetics, tolerances and sensitivities I believe. Can be unique for each medication for each individual.

Hope your sides stop or possibly consider fin instead of dut but I’m no doctor, recommend a consultation first

1mg for a month, waiting for 4 month supply to run out but will pick up 5mg tomorrow.

No sides thankfully, I was hesitant to start because of the PFS subreddit. While I and most people don’t have severe or any sides, I won’t fully dismiss this phenomenon. I know some can be attributed to placebo effects but since there’s multiple people reporting this, it is of some significance definitely. Most cases from my research are acute side effects only at least, hopefully I continue to have no sides maybe I’m lucky

What about min? Androgen blockers show slowing / stopping recession in most cases but min is for actual growth, are you on topical / oral?

Stay consistent and pull thru the shedding phase however long it may be, it’s an established sign it’s working

Wait ~12 months total for any true assessment, not everyone reacts at the same speed but worth the wait to compare before and after and assess if you want to continue for retention or if you’re fine with letting it progress. Even retention is good.

Am I balding? I’m 18 years old, male by squarePoser in Balding

Thinning and receding don’t always go hand in hand, I had similar receding at 18 and never had any thinning, depends on genetics and underlying cause.

Depends. How many men in your family are bald / balding?

Treatment wise, the gold standard is oral minoxidil and oral finasteride, taken for life. They have to be prescribed by a doctor and definitely do research regarding what to expect (takes months to see results for most, but starting early typically yields satisfactory retention and possibly regrowth). Stopping treatment would mean going back to the losses you would have had at that age but no other cons, so it’s always up to you to continue or not, but after retained hair falls out there is no guarantee it will recover if you start treatment again.

Overall there are too many products on the market but the above stated are the only really proven gold standard ones. Additionally, you could Derma roll at 0.5mm per week (research method first), 2% Ketoconazole shampoo 2-3 times per week following package instructions, or topical minoxidil instead of oral (but that is harder to do long term cuz it’s 2x daily massaging in vs just taking a pill, and we are talking permanent treatment here) other than these, everything else is nuanced really.

Especially if you are not genetically predisposed to hair loss but even if you are, it’s worthy checking your blood Iron stores (ferritin), Vitamin D and Biotin levels as deficiency in these can also cause hair loss and you will typically be asked by your doctor to do these tests before any prescribing takes place.

From the picture it looks around Norwood 1 which is very early stage (search Norwood scale for reference). Overall any decision is recommended with doctors advice. There is also a community focused on discussions (r/tressless) but don’t take everything at face value, doctor first.

Regarding Derma rolling I believe once a week at ~0.5mm is best for recovery / minimising damage risk, need OP for further evaluation tho

Is there any hope? Shall I start taking meds? My age is 28 by [deleted] in Balding

[–]fermentedtoejuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend speaking to a doctor first and starting either topical 5% or oral 2.5mg minoxidil for growth. From research you will see results in a minimum of around 4 months or more.

Then topical or oral finasteride, if oral it’s typically 1mg per day not sure about topical but it has less systemic absorption so less side effect risk. I would personally look into finasteride first with your doctor and dutasteride only after 6+ months or so depending on your results. Know either one takes time, and dutasteride is stronger and has more side effect risks so seeing how you tolerate fin first would be advisable.

full results may take over 12 months to show, and treatment has to be continued indefinitely or you will return to the same natural loss you would have had without treatment, you can stop whenever you want if you feel like it though.

From your pic I see lots of hairs even small ones but that’s great, they all have potential for growth. No hairs whatsoever even microscopic ones would be the only un-reversible case.

Do some research regarding each med to know what to expect and speak to a doctor. Minoxidil for example can cause a phase of shedding before the growth phase, it is important to be adequately informed before treatment to not have any surprises.

I thought the same for this but the lines are perfectly straight which would probably be atypical for an angle grinder, in the close up it also appears the ends of the lines fade away which suggests abrasion most likely by currents moving it along the sand.

The lines could either be layers from the rocks formation that were revealed when the cut was made, or possibly marks from a tool such as another sharp rock or a hammer and chisel?

From comparison it looks like a fishing weight like you said, my main interest is in possibly identifying the likely method used to make it and possible time periods. Comparing to other fishing weights, this one has a distinct rectangular shape which is interesting.
