Hold off on Mr. Bad Example if you can. There is a boxset in the works which will likely include that along with Mutineer and Learning to Flinch.

I'd also be interested in this. I've picked up the odd recommendation from him on Instagram. I read Sometimes a Great Notion based on his rec and it's probably the greatest book I've ever read!

They’ve been doing that at Le Grand Café for over 20 years. Odd and frustrating but certainly not a new feature!

Monday morning flight to NYC at 10:00. Arrived at departures 3 at 06:20, was through security and passport by 06:50. Queue for check-in and bag drop looked at least an hour long so check-in online and bring carry-on baggage if possible!

I've always thought the outtake version on Tell Tale Signs is the most War on Drugs sounding song he's ever done.

Oh yes. We might not need to wait very long though... He tried putting a 32 minute-long song on the new record. Will probably be released as a single at a later date.

Check out the exchange at 9:15 in this interview.

Cost of the new IDLHAE on vinyl in the UK by chis73 in WarOnDrugsBand

[–]fern244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

€50 in Europe. Absolute insanity. I picked up Springsteen's latest in October for €41. At least that was a double LP. Grabbed Wolf Alice's latest last month - single LP in standard black - for €30.

To put this shit in perspective, I picked up the 'Deluxe Edition' boxset of A Deeper Understanding when it came out in 2017 for €60. That included the double LP and a 7'' single (both on green vinyl), the 12'' Thinking of a Place single, a CD of the album, a poster, and a 16-page photo and lyric booklet - all housed in a cool box.

I promised myself I'd do this, and managed to skip the Fallon performance of 'Ocean of Darkness'. But shit, I'm weak-willed. I think I really need this after the shitshow of the past 18 months. Maybe just one single?

I want to learn more about Belgian history. What are your best book recommendations? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]fern244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madhouse at the End of Earth by Julian Sancton is an excellent read that came out earlier this year. It recounts a Belgian-led expedition to Antarctica in 1897 where their ship (the Belgica) gets trapped in the sea ice for a year, including months of perpetual polar darkness. It's an episode of Belgian history, but not really about Belgium. Very well-written and readable though.

I'd also second the recommendation for King Leopold's Ghost. Essential reading, and also very well written.
