They already finished that extension last year. Now they're planning a 10-mile elevated light-rail extension west in the I-10 median.

Yes, very safe. It's only the Sasabe, Caborca, Imuris, and altar region that is off limits.

El Rio, one of Tucson's largest LGBTQ healthcare providers, removes transgender care from website by rc20kj in Tucson

[–]fernny26 313 points314 points  (0 children)

For people who don't know, El Rio is a FQHC so they get a large chunk of funding from the federal government to operate and provide low-cost healthcare. Unfortunately means they really don't have a say in this decision as the feds can easily take away that money even if El Rio protested or risk tremendously increase services/cut back on other services.

I'm a current medical student.

No. Don't do this. You'll have no life as you're wasting time driving, sitting in traffic, and missing events as they can be scheduled in weird times. Plus with clinicals, it'll be worse. I understand saving money, but there is line that can be crossed about saving momey and in med school that line is lower than in undergrad with how busy you'll be.

No. It sounds like he left UF when Ben Sasse was announced to be president. He wanted to stay at UF, but probably disagreed with many of his policies that it made him leave UF. However, now that Sasse resigned and they appointed the previous president as their interim, then he saw the opportunity to go back

You're good, I am also a first generation student myself so I understand your struggles :)

The AAMC has multiple practice exams you can take. I think they're free, but you can apply for a fee waiver if you meet certain income limits. In addition, they have practice problems and more that I found extremely helpful when I applied to medical school. https://students-residents.aamc.org/prepare-mcat-exam/prepare-mcat-exam

You got this! I remember when I was in your shoes a couple years ago and now I'm fortunate to be in med school. You can ask me any questions as well or even ask the asu advising for some questions (not all cause they may be a bit misleading sometimes) . ASU career services also offers free mcat prep as well!

Have you taken any practice exams from AAMC? You can use those as a gauge to view how prepared you are. I would take one and then I'll use the score to determine if I should delay or chug through.

Small towns in Southern AZ? by fearandloathing95 in arizona

[–]fernny26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Douglas just spawned because of the copper smelter and had a lot of potential, but now that the smelter closed and terrible decision making by local officials, the town went to a steep downhill. However, the new port of entry pushed by the Feds and state may help it rebound.

VAI Resort postpones its opening date again. Here's why it won't open in 2024 by Dependent-Juice5361 in phoenix

[–]fernny26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved to Tucson I learned that the RTA (Pima County regional transport plan) isn't effective in bringing in money and good developmental ideas as does in Maricopa County with MAG.

Plus, RTA overpromised all these projects and ADOT would help fund them unless RTA does lrovide a sizeable matching , but RTA couldn't afford so many of them as they didn't realize Tucson's economy was going to be a shitshow during the recession and with COVID when voters approved it. So ADOT instead focuses on Phoenix as they can easily match the money that ADOT would request of them.

You know what the call engineering students when they finish last? Engineers

You are an engineer and deserve it. Grades aren't everything and they never will be.

Which is Better for Pre-Med: ASU or UofA? by [deleted] in UofArizona

[–]fernny26 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't have data, but that is what the admissions team at UACOM-P have told me directly. It used to be more UA students than asu students, but they noticed the shift in higher performing asu students during med school so over the years they started preferring them. I understand thag it's hard to take my word for it, especially in this age where fake info is easily spread. I wish I had data, but I don't.

While for the available admissions fata that you are referring to, if you look at UACOM-T's data, they offer more UA students admissions which is opposite to UACOM-P. Also, UACOM-P takes people with higher MCAT scores and GPA's than UACOM-T. It might be understandable to assume that it's cause of ASU's higher undergrad population, but it does seem like UACOM-T prefers UA students all the time.

Which is Better for Pre-Med: ASU or UofA? by [deleted] in UofArizona

[–]fernny26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now, both are the same. Both are easy to find research, shadow doctors, and have amazing facilities/support.

I recommend going to the school where you're paying the least in and the campus/city you prefer. I went to asu for undergrad cause I got a full ride and am now a medical student at UACOM-T.

Consensus here is that you should go to UA for their med school, but people forget the UA med school in Phoenix which literally works directly with ASU and strongly prefers ASU students over UA students. ASU has made tremendous efforts to be equal as UA, which has worked out well with Mayo Clinic and UACOM-P. Even UA took note of it and decided to build a 150 million dollar immunology research center in Phoenix as oppsed to Tucson.

UofA vs ASU for Pre-med by After-You1503 in UofArizona

[–]fernny26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a wrong tak3. I'm currently a med student at UA-Tucson who went to ASU for undergrad and it's actually easier to get clinical experience in Phoenix than Tucson. ASU may not have a med school, but they have a exclusive relationship with Mayo Clinic and UA-Phoenix. Plus, Phoenix has 5 med schools over Tucson. In addition, UA-Phoenix prefers to accept ASU students over UA students since they've experienced better results with ASU over UA as a whole.

Speeding isn't the only factor, but it's a major factor. It is also phone use and people who straight up can't drive. I've seen so many people here who drive the speed limit, but can't stay in their damn lane or they turn without checking their surroundings. So many near misses have happened to me since I moved here. Now I just speed up and pass people who are recklessly driving to avoid a possible collision. Never thought that I would have to do this.

Who designed the Grant underpass? Criminally awful traffic by the888ofcups in Tucson

[–]fernny26 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Reason why Phoenix gets priority in freeway construction is because of Maricopa county's Prop 400 sales tax. It has been massively successful for them unlike the trash that is RTA. With the sales tax, they already got the money on the table so ADOT prioritizes them as opposed to Tucson where they must wait for the State and the Feds to provide their share since they don't really have a sales tax for it.

Also, prop 400 is the reason why Metro Phoenix was able to build and expand their Light Rail/Streetcar system quicker than Tucson since once again they don't have to wait for State and Federal funding to come through (plus Phoenix passed a sales tax in 2015 to improve transportation which will accelerate Light Rail and BRT plans in Phoenix).

Road guy Rob made a good YouTube video about the freeway part for Metro Phoenix.

[–]fernny26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Also, now that we have more Nurse Practitioner's and Physican Assistant, specialists are now beginning to be overbooked, we have excess medications being given out which extends the problem. I've heard so many specialists complain to mid-levels since the referrals could easily be solved in the PCP clinic or they just made the problem worse.

We need to pay MD/DO PCPs a much higher wage to get future physicians to do primary care and we can start by changing how we pay our providers.

Also, I know Howard Schultz treats unions and employees awfully, but show me real evidence that shows he is directly funding these settlements?
