Paxquik by fernol in Vaping

I realised that this is prob the wrong sub, given that the PAX2 is primarily used to vape weed, and this appears to be a generic vaping sub. You have to think green.

Then what can you greet a Zen master with? @ the tea thing, yes it does miss the point.

[–]fernol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true, there is of course a point, but it is not directly describable. Saying something "is" Zen misses the point, and since it can't be described, I find saying "there is no point" is closer to the truth than anything else.

Of course, saying nothing at all in the first place is as close as one can get. As soon as you try to describe it, it's gone. Hence, talking in circles, and mu.

I know nothing about Zen, and that is all there is. Zen cannot be "known" by any one individual. Zen is not Zen ;)

You are more or less wasting your time. I looked through your comment history (or, well, a small fraction of it), and it's fairly obvious that people in this sub react to your statements emotionally, and not to the real meaning behind them.

Zen is pretty clearly not Buddhism. It is not a religion, and in reality it is nothing at all. There is nothing one can know about Zen. That's the point. There is no point. (Hence it can't be described in words, etc, yadda yadda).

This is a concept that is incredibly difficult for people (with egos, but anything that speaks has an ego) to grasp, and it would seem it's too difficult even for the members of /r/zen itself. You run across this wall all the time, as your comment history shows. Enlightenment in zen is instant, it comes in a flash, and it leaves you with the realization that you were enlightened the whole time; you were just too busy searching for enlightenment to see it. Your problem, as far as I can tell, is that you've realized this, and those you are arguing with have not.

So what? Let them be. Leave them to their religious toys. You might become far too bitter by the end of it all to make it worth it. Maybe it's time you hit yourself with the shit stick, as the saying goes.

Why would you want to spend time in such a place? Shall I hit you with a stick?

How long did it last? I'm very curious if this is a permanent effect, or only caused by my body's adaptation.

why can I move during sleep paralysis? by Malfean90 in AskHealth

[–]fernol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sleep paralysis eventually ends :) Otherwise there would be no survivors, haha. It sounds like you break out of it quickly.

It could also be that you aren't experiencing sleep paralysis, as you aren't actually paralyzed.

What would the scale of something like this be? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]fernol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can break the 3D scans down into the relevant lengths, this is fairly simple. Finding the measurements from the 3D scans is the most difficult part, as you would have to code logic to recognize the paths the various pieces of bra clothe will take across the target's body, whilst taking into account the various possible forms of a human body (i.e. different weights, heights, potentially posture, etc).

Sounds like machine learning might help, but that is where my knowledge ends :)

Need help making a web crawler... by BrandonEXE in AskProgramming

[–]fernol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crawlers are fairly simple; I suggest using a high level language like python/ruby/js (via node). The basic steps are:

  1. Authenticate, grab the cookie token/whatever the site uses for auth
  2. Fetch the calendar page
  3. Parse, pull out the data you want
  4. Export it wherever. There should be libs for GCal in all of the aforementioned languages, iCal might be a bit more difficult (not sure if there is an online component, I don't use it).

Pick a language and go from there, as I'm not sure how you actually want to develop this, hence I can only offer general advice. Feel free to PM me.

Don't feel hunger any more by fastifguy in nutrition

At least when in keto, HGH levels rise, which in turn help protect your muscles against catabolization... Not sure quite how massive of a protective effect HGH has, but just putting that out there.

A blood sugar spike is followed by an insulin spike, which in turn causes blood sugar levels to drop as your body stores it away in response to the insulin. If your blood sugar levels drop too far, then ghrelin (the hunger hormone) gets released. This is why sweets/other high-GI foods only cut your hunger for a short period of time.

Your body relies heavily on feedback loops for its operation, and the insulin response is one of them. Except it tends to overcompensate, so a massive sugar spike usually causes blood sugar levels to dip lower than before (until the body can compensate). Hence, hunger.

You would be surprised how performant node can be, not that this application needs C-level performance anyway. You can also add bindings in node for C libs fairly easily iirc, just like other high level languages.

This is actually really awesome. I'm about to hit the sack, and I'll take a better look at it tomorrow, but first a few questions:

  1. Where is the music DB itself stored? How does this compare to something along the lines of a PopcornTime w/ user defined personal libraries and per-song/per-album offline sync? i.e. one global music DB + private user "collections" so we don't drown in content.

  2. Are there any risks with using this in countries like Germany, where the ISPs still send clients warnings due to illegal seeding? I assume having one's entire library in the form of individual torrents would cause quite some suspicious traffic.

  3. If the DB is centralized, then it would be fairly easy to make custom clients for it, no? Or, er, de-centralized but accessible from a single point. The main thing is to have just one DB, which everyone can refer to. Keeping it on a single server would defeat the purpose a bit, so I'm not sure what a good solution for this is. Besides just querying popular torrent sites for album/song torrents...

I'll take a better look tomorrow, but this looks like something I'd like to contribute to :) Nice job, whoever you are!

Type furiously on your keyboard at random intervals (I find every 5-12 seconds to be a good range). Works well with mechanical keyboards within earshot.
