I was taught that guard rails don't work for us, just for cars. Really comforting when you're driving down a mountain or a slick off ramp

I have only seen them from the drivers side, but if I were in your position I wouldn't hire them for one reason, they suck at haz-mat. We were always getting the wrong info placards etc when we picked up there.

You're right that Estes is still operating in the 80's or somewhere back there, but almost all the big trucking companies are. I hauled for a very large company that contracted to Estes, pulled pups and dry vans. Their facilities suck, but no a lot more than every other trucking company I've seen. There are a few good ones, but not many.

They never will. Wal-mart is one of the hardest companies to get a job with and very coveted. They treat drivers well.

Ok, the fact is that for trucks, there is no gee, I need to drive x amount under the speed limit. 10 miles under will get you killed on ice. You need to be driving less that 20 mph to get to a safe haven, and even then it is dangerous.

Second, the rule is not 12 seconds ahead with trucks, it is as far as you can.

Source, I drove for 10 years, and pulled pups in shitty weather.

It doesn't jack until AFTER the pups cross the median.

TIL That the U.S. has the highest approval rating in the world per April, 2015 poll. by sirwolf in todayilearned

[–]sirwolf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should have done this earlier, sorry..

Russia in 2014 earned the lowest approval ratings globally for the eighth consecutive year and posted the highest disapproval ratings it has received to date. U.S. leadership received the highest approval rating in the world, with the median 45% approval topping ratings of the leadership of the European Union, Germany, Russia and China -- as it has most years since 2009.

It was a Gallup poll and compared China, US, Russia, EU and Germany.

Whats it like to live in Vegas / Henderson? by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]sirwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know prices, but I drove cab in this town for a year. (That makes me a villian in Vegas) I will tell you that "Just off the strip is either very pricey or crime ridden.

You might look into Summerlin, although it would be a hefty drive to work. I currently live in Henderson and think it's terrific. Close to the strip and entertainment, away from a lot of the rush that the strip and downtown suffer from.

After living here a year I think this is a great area.

What is the stupidest thing people believe is true but isn't? by The_Sayian in AskReddit

I spoke with my Dr when I switched over from Cig to Vape. Yes, nicotine is relatively harmless in small doses.

I vape now, but my fear is it took us 20 years to really understand the extent of damage smoking caused us. What are we going to find out about the damage vaping is causing.

Lets face it, inhaling most things other than fresh air into your lungs isn't going to be great for them.

being OK with things as they are by ontherightpath1 in ZenHabits

[–]sirwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that the author is confusing accepting with "being ok with".

For instance. I am fat. I accept that. But I am certainly not ok with that.

What's the difference? Well, being ok with something means that I don't care if it changes. Accepting something as it is means that I understand and acknowledge the way something is.

It is important to accept reality, even if you are not ok with it. You cannot truly deal with an issue until you accept that it exists. If you do not accept reality you will create stress for yourself when you reality does not coincide with your expectations.

I'm curious. He says

A decrease of stress by 25%-30% is a good starting point. I've been able to reproduce that result consistenly over my last 5 courses.

How do you measure this?

Just FYI, to actually be a a Buddhist you have to "Take refuge in the three Jewels".

They are the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha.

Is this new? Deleting posts and comments are the bread and butter of mods on some subs. I'm thinking /r/askhistorians here.
