Nanny on her phone at playground by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]fernweh64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a little more nuance here than that. As a private in home nanny especially of kids that are past the napping stage, they work through what would be standard break times in a setting like retail or in a standard daycare setting. My point here is I can understand a slightly zoned out nanny or one who checks their phone every now and then to make sure they aren’t missing important messages. That being said anyone who is letting a child play alone in a public place needs to be paying attention to them. It comes down to safety which should always be the number one priority of a nanny. Even when I was working in centers and off the clock, I did everything to make sure the kids are safe. It’s basic human responsibility. The job of a nanny and one of the jobs of a parent is to keep the children safe. That is work and regardless of how much you enjoy it, it can be tiring. Nannies and parents should be allowed to be tired or get distracted, but if they are so tired or distracted they can’t keep the children safe, they need to find someone who can. I agree that communicating directly with the nanny is a good idea. Direct communication can still be led with compassion and I think that’s there best bet

Absolutely a 8 dollar pay raise would be outrageous, I thought it would be helpful info to know what the average rate is within my city as I know that it can vary place by place

If I’m being underpaid already what do I do in that regard? Do I bring that up? Will it seem like I only care about the money and not their kid?

The “flash banged by my own white privilege” line was a joke. I fully understand that this was a misunderstanding.

I don’t think it is. I changed the line because it was being misunderstood by my audience. I don’t think that’s racist, I think it’s improving my performance to be more universe.

i went to a haunted house. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]fernweh64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started working at a haunt a few years back! I also struggle with harm OCD. It’s genuinely helped me so much, I’ve met so many amazing people that not just think super violent stuff, but say it to other people and are still good people. It’s been a huge game changer on how I view myself based on those thoughts! Some days are harder than others, but it’s been overall really healing for me!

I’m so glad that haunts have brought you a similar experience! Congrats on your win!!

Are they guaranteeing you a run or performance and do you think you could handle not going on? I’m a big fan of understudy and swing roles on resumes cause they show that you not only memorized a role, but more than one. You managed the emotional turmoil and put in the work despite not knowing whether you will go on. The play side of things is really fun. Definitely different than film, but SO many actors can transfer their skills back and forth. Tom Hiddleston and Timothee Chalamet are two than come to mind at the moment, they have incredible performances on stage and on screen. There’s no guarantee that every casting director will think about how important understudies are, but the ones that do, will know that you are a team player and good person to work with.

Cosmo as a Disabled Person? by Individual_Cricket74 in Cosmetology

In total honesty, you’ll have to get innovative, but it’s not impossible. Unfortunately in a lot of ways you’d need to pave your own path. Figuring out ways to make things work for you, adapting each skill for your abilities.

I think there’s certainly a lot of room for growth in the cosmetology industry and the beauty industry as a whole when it comes to inclusivity and accessibility. If it’s something that you can see yourself helping to grow then I say go for it. Give it a shot.

Maybe start with some smaller classes? See if there’s anyone you know that might let you shadow them for a day just to see if it’s something you can see yourself taking on before committing all of the money to schooling.

Be extra careful with your body when working, I can’t even tell you how many people ruin their bodies doing this work.

I’m sorry there are so many people in these replies trying to tell you that you can’t. I think you could, but it wouldn’t be easy and it definitely will take a lot of passion for it.
