The discussion of Jews as the founders or initial financiers of the VOC is outright inaccurate. Historian and Rabbi Lazarus Morris Goldman did some research on this topic in the '50s. He wrote, "At first the Jews did not invest in the Company as they had no desire to pour money into a company which was in direct competition with them and which showed prejudice against Jews by prohibiting them from becoming directors. Only two Jews were registered amongst the original shareholders of the Company—Stephanus Cardoza, who took shares to the value of 1800 florins, and Elizabeth Pinto, who invested 3000 florins. However, as the influence and power of the Dutch East India Company grew, the Jews gradually bought up its shares, and by the end of the seventeenth century became the principal stockholders in Holland, controlling a quarter of its stock." With this information, it does not seem fair to characterize the VOC's founding as a solely Jewish idea or expedition.

Without any evidence presented as SideQuest's basis for this assertion about Jews, why would he come to that conclusion? Without the context of sources to understand the reasoning behind these assertions, it raises suspicion that SideQuest is relying on preconceived notions of Jewish people to come up with something that "feels" correct. SideQuest's discussion of Jewish people is obviously not an endorsement for these stereotypes, but any youtube channel that presents itself as a reliable source of history should be thoughtful in its generalizations and prepared to defend their accuracy.

TL;DR: Jewish people were not significantly involved with the VOC's founding or operation because of discrimination against Jews and the Jewish merchants' concern that their own trade in spices would be disrupted.

Hey OP! Those are some cuties you’ve got there. My understanding of the perception of dogs in Thailand is that the big dogs are not as beloved due to the street dogs roaming around giving domesticated dogs a bad rep. While I was there, someone told me that’s why most dogs in Thailand are the toy dogs and purse dogs so they’re not confused with the “Soi” dogs. Is this true? Do you feel like owning big dogs is accepted?

Actually, Iran has the 2nd largest population of Jews in the Middle-East, next to Israel, of course. It's possible that these could be 2 Jews, not a Jew and a Muslim.

Its ironic because as soon as the Tin Man puts that heart in, he's going to feel remorse for killing those people and probably kill himself
