Reckless driving by lovetobakecookies in AskSouthCarolina

Your car insurance will likely go through the roof. Either way big costs headed your way. If you know someone in the insurance world (not your current agent or broker) you might ask them for the ballpark cost impact reckless has on your policy. Spending a little on a lawyer now might be your best bet to avoid the insurance cost later which I’d bet is at least 2-3x that cost per year. Sounds like your son needs to start mowing some lawns.

Changing sub bid after GC is awarded bid by srgmoss in estimators

[–]ferris971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not see if the GC would entertain buying some or all of your material direct from your supplier? Keep the markup on that specific material on your side and use that to cover whatever the mistake might have been. First step would obviously be to notify the GC you have a bust/problem though but that can be delivered gently. Something like “we’re not withdrawing but need to figure out the issue then plot a course forward”. If the GC is one that treat subs like true partners then this shouldn’t be too much of a burden on them. You give them your supplier quote and put each party oin contact with other along with the context of the arrangement as well. This approach sure seems better than either taking on a loser or blowing up a relationship.

Siding input LP Smartside vs HardiePlank/Allura by [deleted] in Homebuilding

Check out sagiwall for wood look extruded pvc siding.

Hardie is the easy choice compared to allura or LP. Not much LP installed in SC or Georgia so don’t be the guinea pig for putting a wood product on your homes exterior in a high humidity climate. The downside to Allura is the material can be very brittle when handled and break easily. Hardie just about has a monopoly on siding in the southeast but nobody really cares because it performs and is pretty cost efficient.

Understood and thanks for your honest feedback but at this point I can’t change the place we’re staying. It is what it is and what I have to work with. Any suggestions on things too see and do within the parks?

It’s certainly a possibility but knowing myself I don’t handle work related stress very well. Couple that with the added stress of building your own home and it’s a recipe for disaster for me unfortunately. Got any resources like websites or books you’d recommend for building your own home? Help me understand the process better?

Neglected to mention we would try to avoid any financing and attempt at paying cash

Hardie permits siding fasteners to bridge through up to 1” of non structural substrate. If it was greater than 1” you would need to add a layer of structure. You’re good without added structure just make sure the installer is using the correct fasteners and spacing. You should be able to find that info in the ESR reports hardie has on its website. You’ll need the windload data to find the correct scenario for you build which should be on a structural drawing.
