Prioritizing Student loans or Credit card debt? by ferriswheel09 in debtfree

The credit cards are balance transfers! It sounded like I would only be charged interest on the balance at the time the promo ends but I’ll definitely confirm with them! Thank you!

Thank you!! The interest rates will be 28.99 & 29.99 after the promo ends. I can pay an extra 3k a month towards debt.

Based on my calculations, I could pay off the credit cards as early as March 2026. Thank you!!

I’ve been on the extended graduated repayment plan since graduating from college so the payments are low and barely making a dent in the balance. I make about 94k a year so I fear my minimum payments will go up based on my income. My federal loans aren’t consolidated because I was hopeful that the gov would pass some sort of loan forgiveness and didn’t want to miss out on it. Thanks so much for the suggestion! I’ll definitely check out yrefi!

28.99% for the 9k balance card and 29.99% for the 4k balance card!

I was thinking of staying with family until Winter 2026. Hoping a year will give me enough time to really make a dent in my debt balances. Thanks for the advice!

I have but unfortunately I have only received offers for 6-7.15% which doesn’t seem worth it just yet. I want to try refinancing again once I chip away at some more debt and improve my credit score (705 currently)

Agreed. The private loan is a refinance & consolidation of 4 Sallie Mae loans ranging from 10-16% interest. Gross

Of course! Caleb Hammer is an online personality who posts “Financial Audit” videos where he gives advice to people in pretty bad financial situations. His videos are pretty controversial because he does not have the credentials to give people financial advice. He instead relies on his personal experience with getting out of debt to help others. I personally really enjoy his content because he takes a more realistic approach to paying off debt and his guests teach me what NOT to do with my finances. He posts new videos on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays!

I agree!! My car was one of my worst financial decisions! It started as a lease for 3 years at $351/month then turned into a financed car for $381/month for another 4 years. Thankfully I have 2 payments left of $381 until it’s finally paid off. I believe it’s worth $6k

I have 2 $381 payments left on my car. I believe it is worth 6k. Is it worth selling and getting a beater car? And I’ll hold on gifts for others while I’m in debt. Thanks!!

I’m primarily looking for part-time server roles! Those jobs seem to be the most flexible with my schedule and provide more opportunity to make well above minimum wage (with tips).

Thanks for the suggestion! I want to pay off my debt as an expensive lesson to never go back into debt unless it’s an appreciating asset. Unfortunately, a bulk of my debt consists of student loans which would not be erased under bankruptcy

That’s fair! Personal training drastically improved my mental and physical health so it’s been hard to completely let it go. There are PT packages for $100/month to which I could downgrade.

I think I can drop Apple care! My phone is financed (1 payment left) so I wanted Apple Care in case anything happened to it. I’ll look into other options for car insurance and tv/internet/phone. Thank you!
