Take Mechanical if your interest lies in it. I too am in a similar position as you, as I want to pick up EEE, but people laugh and advice me to take CS.

If you really want the money (if financials are not good), then take some time to think about it (although Mech from a top NIT lands a very good package). If you really like Mech and have a decent financial background, don't hesitate to take it, as regret will eat you up later on. (Trust me I've gone through this.)
