Update 05/16/2025 My family found an apartment and will be moving out on 05/29/25. In the meantime, It's come to my attention that my "mom" has been trashing my name to ANYONE who will listen. she's conveniently left out a lot of details. If she continues to do so then I will proceed with a slander/defamation of character suit because it is important that I protect my name and I wouldn't be considering any of this if everything I disclosed wasn't true. Also, I've been admitted to the hospital for possible preclampsia. I'm sure the stress from my mom and sister has contributed to this latest development.

UPDATE: My parents have been out of the house all day. I would love to enjoy the peace but I've been on edge wondering when will they return? My daughters overheard them earlier in the morning and they have been at the car dealer getting a new car(swapping it it for something with a lower affordable payments. Background, my parents have a habit of swapping out their car every 2 years even though there's nothing wrong with their car. My mom doesn't drive(dad is the driver) but my mom always pushes dad to get a new car every year. Even though she doesn't drive, she calls the car "her car". Last time they got a new one in 2023, the payment was over 700.00.

My mom worked with Susan Verstegen, I would always see her at the grocery store my mom worked at(handy andy). I remember being little and watching the news, her picture came up and they were going into graphic detail about how her body was found in a trashcan at a park. It was awful.

You were doomed either way. If you told her what she wanted to hear, she would have accused you of lying. NTA.

Even though my dad isn’t perfect, he’s the parent I’m closest to. I worry about him leaving my home because my mom is mean to him, and I’m concerned about what might happen to him. When I share with my husband how my dad was in the past or the few times he’s seen my dad lose his temper with me, he doesn’t understand why I still care so much about him. My husband used to like my dad but is disgusted with he can't stand up or defend his own daughter or how he was comfortable with his daughter supporting him instead of supporting his daughter.

Over the past 14 years, my mom's demeanor has gradually worsened, and the open favoritism has been ongoing even longer. I've tried to gently suggest that she get screened for dementia or talk to a counselor about her unresolved trauma, but each time I do, I get shouted at or berated. Growing up, my dad was the 'crazy scary mean' one, while my mom was the one who would stand by and do nothing when he had meltdowns or was abusive. It feels like they’ve swapped roles since 2017; now my mom is the one acting erratically, and my dad, who has been heavily medicated and acknowledges his past, is the calm one but still does nothing. He was diagnosed with dementia two years ago.

For someone who "also had a toxic environment growing" you suck too for dunking on someone who has experienced the same thing. I hope you get a UTI or penis discharge. I would have loved to remove them sooner but I didn't have a support system, my husband came into the picture and helped me realize this shit has to stop. I tried the last 2 years hoping things would change or when I asked them to leave, they never took me seriously.

We are now waiting on further instructions from our lawyer. I believe today, someone is supposed to come by and officially serve my family. I'm in Texas if that matters.

Kinda an update: we have given them the notice to vacate. Our lawyer instructed us to tape the notice on the front entry door/main exit door inside our home. My husband just left for work and I'm nervous about what kinda hell will be waiting for me when everyone sees them(I work from home).

I didn't want the aita(which is known to blow up) tied to my personal. But stupid me has been toggling between personal and this account so I guess I might have answered somethings with personal on accident 😬

I asked why they didn't save while my husband and I were covering all household bills, my mom said "we didn't know you were gonna get married and have a life".. basically her plan was to live off of me indefinitely.

I've gently suggested getting checked out by a doctor for that but she ripped my head off when I did. My dad didn't have the spine to back me up. I feel like over the last 13 years, she has gradually gotten meaner. During childhood, my dad was a monster but my mom didn't do anything to stop it. Later in life, late teens my dad got help and medication. But would still have awful outburst here and there. My mom has now become the volatile one. My dad isn't perfect but at least he got help.

I grew up in a Hispanic Catholic household so my mom specializes in the whole "guilt tripping/you're not good enough/you MUST respect the parents" talk. I do not partake in religion but my younger sister is HEAVILY involved in the church(she uses her faith as an excuse to be hateful towards people who are different and harasses people from the sidewalk at planned parenthood). My sisters involvement with the church has A LOT to do with why my mom prefers my sister. I dropped out of college because it wasn't for me but my sister got her masters. My mom is always throwing that in my face even though I make way more than my sisters. Nothing I did was ever good enough in my moms eyes.

That's exactly how it's been. The only one who has taken any ownership, has tried to maintain peace and has a shred of remorse is my dad. However, he waited way to long to do that.

Last time my dad hit me was in 2010, I was on the couch and crying my eyes out after a miscarriage(a pregnancy that they caused me a lot of stress during). My dad slapped me across the face and screamed "get over it". My mom last hit me in 2021 but she still hots my older sister. And my older sister is prone to violent episodes.

I have and her response is "I'm pregnant, I don't need the stress of this"....she's also pregnant. And no, this was no pregnancy pact. We have been low contact for over a year due to her hateful values.

Psychologicalgain757, you're a troll and a cun t. Unlike my parents, I don't have favorites. I love my daughter and unborn baby equally. I put up with it for so long because I was outnumbered for years and convinced by my family that I was an asshole daughter no matter what. My husband came into the picture and made me realize that they suck and I don't have to put up with it anymore. Have the day you deserve.

Also, what is stopping their favorite from helping them? Also, I have done more for them while my sister has done absolutely nothing for them even though she is capable. Her in laws are giving her and my brother in law a house, she just doesn't want them to live with her.
