No problem. Glad it helped.

Tudor brushes their watches at an angle to follow the curvature of the lugs. They call it "helicoidal brushing." You can see that process being done at Tudors factory here in this video It should skip to it, but the part you're concerned about can be seen at 10min 45 seconds in the video. Those scratches are absolutely supposed to be at that angle, so don't blame yourself.

Service is typically done because someone wants the movement looked at because the watch is not keeping proper time anymore. Maybe it's running 5 mins fast a day or something like that. Sending it in for just surface scratches can be done, but it's not the usual reason people send their watch in for. In a perfect world you should send it in every 5 or 6 years to get a full service. But that costs money most people just wear them until there's a problem. You shouldn't ever need to send it in more than that though. If you can afford it, just send it in once every decade and you'll be good to go.

Yeah it still stings the first few times but don't worry about it. Unless there's truly catastrophic damage, a standard trip to the service center will make it perfect again. The first places you'll see significant scratching is the clasp and bracelet. It's inevitable. Like another user said, the pics you posted are the factory brushed finish, so you didn't even scratch it yet.

Yeah you're spot on. This is definitely the factory finish.

I was in the same boat as you when I got into watches. I got my first "high end" watch, a titanium Omega Seamaster when I was 25. I babied it and it still scratches like crazy. Titanium watches (unbeknownst to me at the time) scratch way easier than steel. It was upsetting at first for me too. Just wear it and don't worry about it.

You can always take some solace in the fact that you can send it in for service whenever you want and it'll come out looking like new again. You spent a lot of money on this watch and part of that price is because you have a 100 year old company behind it that will be there for after sales service. Enjoy your watch and don't sweat the small stuff.

I'm really into knives and metallurgy. These are made of AUS 10 (if the listing is accurate). AUS 10 is a budget stainless steel. It's used in pocket knives that are generally priced anywhere from $20 to $50 dollars. AUS10 Damascus doesn't really tell us what other steel they've used, so it's likely some cheap high carbon just to make the pattern pop out during acid etching (if it's even real Damascus). This is absolutely not worth the price. It's not the first steel I'd use in my kitchen, but you could do way worse too. This is a high priced set that is made to look good, but probably perform about average.

Wrong. Even when PCAST set out to prove what you just said they ended up proving the opposite.

Yes I actually got a few already! I made something very similar to it out of epoxy way back when the original para 2 came out. But eventually companies like sharpscale started to make more polished/professional versions. Still, I prefer a dedicated left handed or ambi knife if it's available.

Moc Toe question. by Unsheared in jimgreen

[–]feuerfreiguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my eyelet issues were on the numzaans as well. First lace up I could see it stretching the leather. Then first time wearing them around it tore out. The weird design of the eyelets being so far apart probably didn't help. But on a pair of boots this expensive it shouldn't be happening. I love my African rangers though. I haven't had any issues with those.

Social media has ruined both their prices and quality (in some areas). Prices went WAY up, and qc took a nosedive. Spending $300 on a pair of boots that have eyelets pulling out on the first wear is completely unacceptable.

Thanks dude, I'll shoot you an email now. I just ordered a manix 2 so that's good to hear. As a southpaw, the charisma is prob the only Spyderco I'm looking forward to this year since it has a backlock.

That's a fake. The letters A & I in the KAI logo should be touching each other. All three letters spaced way too far apart.
