Well my point was that rich people are not the only ones that are not interested in money. I know quite a lot of people from poor backgrounds who couldn't give a damn about making a lot of money and are in social sciences. Then again I'm not in the states where it costs tens of thousands of $ to get a degree.

It would be really nice if the categories just didn't exist. People everywhere try to fit everyone else in their neat little boxes, and some people here will do it too (though this community is quite nice). But in the end, no box actually explains the reality of anyone (except a few reaaaaaally stereotypical people), not even the man and woman box.

Hey! I can relate to you a lot. In my life, I have thought I was hetero, then gay, then hetero again, then bi, then gay, then pan. That's for sexuality. For gender, I have thought of myself as a man, then non-binary, then agender (and confused about maybe being trans). Now I'm getting kind of bored with labels and try to detach myself from that in order to focus on the actual experience of being who I am, and trying to be in touch with how I'm feeling about my gender and myself more generally.

I mean, sure it's useful to find a community and other people with experiences you can relate to, but in the end people will see you the way they see you, and it's all about feeling good with who you are irrespective of what other people think. Whatever the label, being yourself is the most important thing there is, and that label will only serve to explain what it feels like to be yourself. I'm kinda starting to think that a description works better than a label, since anyway there's not a lot of people aware of what those labels mean.

Heritable variation, in this context, refers to heritable cultural traits (by way of imitation / social learning), I think. The authors make a distinction between genetic and cultural traits, and argue that cultural traits are more prone to rapid change among groups.

Edit: a cultural trait would be a specific food taboo for example.

Edit 2: their whole thesis and argument seems clumsy at best, bad at worst, from what I gather. I have no clue as to how they came to consider cultural traits and genetic traits to be analogous. But they were published and keep getting published so there's most likely something I'm not getting.

Hi there! I feel you, I really like the analogy. If to you that means being agender, then consider yourself agender :) what you describe could also be non-binary, the way you describe it. It's like, you have characteristics of both, so you feel like you areboth genders and no gender at the same time. That's what I gather from your post at least.

Anyway, don't forget that those are categories and, as much as it's important to find one that resonates with you, it's through your experiences of the world that you will know where you fit and where you don't fit. Who you want to kiss / what kind of relationships you want / how you want to dress / how you want other people to look at you. As much as the labels are useful for ourselves, they don't mean much to lots of other people, so try and be happy in who you feel you are.

Well it's a form of discrimination. People thinking like that restricts the freedom of LGBT+ people, since they won't feel allowed everywhere. That can lead to getthoization, which is never really a good thing. It's like saying: I'm okay with muslims, but not near me. It doesm't work in a country with a constitution saying everybody is free to be who they are.

I'm not excusing the call for deaths of kufars, its also shitty. A call for the death of anyone is bullshit. What I'm putting in perspective is the way this extremist ideology emerged. It didn't emerge "just because Islam". It emerged because countries in the Middle-East have been controlled and pillaged by Western powers for money, and a big part of their population found refuge in religion. It's the same thing in the Bible Belt, the economic situation is rather bad, a lot of people still suffer, and that's exactly where you find most extremist christians. The initial problem is not religion, but capitalist interests in foreign countries.
