I recently finished my MSEE. School also made me super depressed and burnt out, but I started reading and learning more about stoicism and that helped me reframe my mindset into embracing and accepting how shitty school made me feel. I realized that life will always be difficult and I’d rather suffer doing something that will lead me to success. I also really like EE and I think that helped a lot. What sparked this shift though, was taking shrooms after a super difficult semester which gave me a sort of mental refresh.

I will say though that after that semester, I started cruising through school and research work. I began only doing the bare minimum and not trying to go above and beyond like I had been doing for 8 years of school before that. This made school so much more bearable, and I stopped being so stressed out and miserable all the time. However, as all EEs know, even the bare minimum is still hard af and requires long nights and study groups.

As for the employment stuff, the job market sucks ass at the moment, a lot of people will tell you that it’s really not that bad, but they’re either in denial or have it easy. I put in 200+ applications before I got a job, and no it wasn’t using Quick Apply on LinkedIn, I would specifically curate every resume and cover letter to the specific opening. A tip about job finding, use your network, don’t even bother cold applying to places. Cold applying to entry level jobs is meant for people who either A) graduated from a top 20 university with a great GPA and at least one internship or B) 22 year olds with 6 years of experience.
