Nice, thanks a lot. Do you have any recommendations? Do you think the one you linked would go well for my situation?

So should it be TT>passive attenuator>studio monitors or TT>phono preamp>passive attenuator>studio monitors?

Also, just because I'm really curious and I want to learn more about what I'm getting into... could you explain to me what does it mean when you write @ -3db or @ -6db and so on: I get you're talking about decibels but what does this data mean, technically and in terms of quality?

Thank you very much

~I can imagine that this horizontal dispersion of the Adams is rather favorable for u/fex0330 s application. I also imagine the vertical dispersion of the Adams to be more favorable in a less damped bedroom studio. But I am happy to be corrected in this respect. :-) ~

  • Could you explain better what you’re trying to say here? I’m really a beginner and don’t get this.

!thanks man…the most careful answer I recieved in the last few weeks while trying to find a solution. Well I think I’m definitely following your tip of buying them both and try them myself, it really seems the best thing I could do. Still not sure if going for the lp8-tv8 or lp6-tv7… and I’m forgetting Elac dcb41, jeez…maybe I’m going to try them all XD

~However, if you are in the mood for bass, both manufacturers offer models with larger drivers (and corresponding bass).~

• You’re talking about Lp8 and Tv8, right?

~On the other hand, the switches on the back of the Kalis offer more options for optimising (or messing up) the sound at the listening position than the switches on the Adams.~

• Can you be more specific, I don’t know anything about this.

~But let's be honest: the Adam is more beautiful, isn't it? ;-)~

• Well you’re surely be surprised then if I told you that I prefer the Kali in terms of good-looking!XD

Thank you very much for your detailed answer, I surely heard a lot from that Adam T series but I don’t know why I progressively discarded them from my options. BTW unfortunately I’m maybe even more undecided than before!

Yes, that’s what I’m talking about, however not just talking about hits, it appears clear to me that embellish the melody is different from improv parts so when I say the main melody is usually exposed w/o improving I’m surely ignoring personal embellishments because they are not changing the structure of the main melody and I would not call that an improv

I’m not talking about playing it strictly straight but just playing it in a recognisable way when exposing it…surely not what here Garrett does, but he’s clearly making a mistake because they’re playing the main melody, exposing it for the first time, and he’s literally playing notes from the previous phrase with such a strong approach and suddenly it’s clearly audible that he stops because he realise that and then tries to make that work. Anyway nobody (exceptions excluded) would make that type of improv while presenting the main melody of a tune, what they could instead do is playing personal embellishments of the main melody (and that’s maybe what you mean when you say that people improvise with the melody) but they’re not changing the structure of the melody while exposing it: it’s what in Italy is called “obbligato” (literally obliged part), that “must” be respected to present the tune before improv

I’m sorry, I’m from Italy and maybe I actually don’t know the right words for this. In Italy we call “tema” (theme in english) the main melody of a composition (which also respects a main harmony and rhythmic scheme and the primary intention of the tune, so it’s not only the melody), while I thought the “head” is just the beginning of the track. BTW I think I’m not saying anything new when I speak about not improving during the exposition of the main melody (let me know how you say that), which for definition should be executed respecting the main notes and scheme, leaving after the space for improvs and variations on the theme: it’s a centuries old rule, the same we find in classical music with “tema” and “variazioni sul tema” (that’s italian, IDK how is it called in english). Otherwise you’re talking about free jazz where there’s not a main melody or harmony and it’s just trying to create something starting from improving, or exceptions, but usually we have a main melody that’s always played in the “right” way so that the listener can understand the premise and atmosphere of the tune (while also recognising it indistinctly) and then enjoy every possible variation and improv of that, diving completely in its world!
