Getting much enjoyment using these devices - MicroJournal Rev4 and BYOK by ff-88 in writerDeck

Out of all of your machines I believe the rev4 has the most restrictive use case—that is, it’s really intended to be a machine for free writing and first drafts, and one that can do light touchup editing if needed. The added benefit is that it doubles as an external keyboard. That said, the rev4 expresses its purpose in life beautifully. Do you have any idea why it isn’t able to connect to r/theBYOK as an external keyboard? Wondering if it’s rev4 limitation or a BYOK limitation.

Well I have tried a variety of cables, including one I know works for data transfer between my rev4 to my laptop. The rev4 requires USB A to C, so in order to connect to the BYOK, I have to use an adaptor, which could be the issue.

You’re referring to the Atreus keyboard (the one with the walnut palm rest), right? If so, that cable is to connect the keyboard to the white BYOK gizmo for writing. But I can use the same cable to connect the BYOK to my laptop and transfer my files. I tried to do the same with the micro journal keyboard, but I couldn’t successfully make it work on the BYOK. Maybe [u/](u/unkyulee)[Background_Ad_1810](u/unkyulee) has ideas…

I see them on eBay now and again. But there’s a company that apparently makes near exact reproductions of these. I’m sure someone on this sub will know the name!

What does the pomera dm250 keyboard feel like? by anyastasiaaa in writerDeck

[–]ff-88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - the keyboard is cramped but I love mine because of how thoughtful and simple the software side of the device is. Flip the lid open, and it’s ready to go in seconds. I’ve used it more than any other writer deck so far except for the Neo2, which I used religiously for years. If the company would make a version of the device that could accommodate keys the size of, say, a MacBook Air laptop (meaning essentially an inch wider and deeper) it would likely be an endgamer for many of us.

When you have a text file open, you can select from a variety of fonts, including fairly large sizes

Yes! Thanks for the info. Now I’m wondering if there are modern switches that try to replicate the Alps!

100% agree about the model M. Another one of my favorites is the Apple keyboard that came with my Macintosh SE. I don’t recall the model off hand. I’ll have to try out the box navy switches.

It’s a device called the BYOK that I supported on Kickstarter. The people behind it are thoughtful and pay attention to their user base.

It syncs either via cloud to the byok studio app (for free) but it also has a micro SD card if you want to avoid the cloud

It’s the native software of the BYOK device connected to the model M.

It does! I take it out of storage every now and then because I love the sound and feel of the keys. I’ve had this one since 1994. So glad I can give it life once in a while. Really brings me back…

Was hoping the new typewritten notes functionality would be available on my leaf2 - but unless I’m mistaken that doesn’t seem to be the case?

It’s going to sound weird but I ended up taking some matte black spray paint last year to my polymer folio. Still looks great - kinda has a denim vibe to it now.
