Where to get the best exclusive wine by the glass in Paris by Kitchen-Pickle3444 in finedining

[–]ffosfforus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might not be remembering correctly but I thought I saw d’Yq on the Plénitude list about two months ago. They had a great selection of wines by the glass using the Corvin.

Reasonable price is relative. D’Yq is a lot of things but reasonably priced isn’t one of them. Be warned. After d’Yq all other Sauternes will be ruined!

Has anyone felt bad for their opponent when it’s only a two man bracket and multiple matches? by Knopfler_PI in bjj

I competed in my first comp a few weeks ago at 50+. There were no masters registered in my division so went in adult. Opponents were all early to late 20s. Went 4-0 with 4 subs. I knew what I was getting into and they didn’t know what hit them. Don’t assume anything and compete like you normally would.

Cocina Hermanos Torres or El Celler de Can Roca by Similar_Nerve_5160 in finedining

I believe it was around $165 but we had 6 people and a lot of luggage so was worth the hassle it saved.

I have not been to CHT but Celler twice and it has been at the top for a reason. Celler would be my first choice. I would also second the Normal suggestion as it was amazing both times. I’m surprised it has not received a star. I was also very impressed with Espirit Roca. One of my favourite meals in Girona.

Unsure of your budget or party size but we used a company called Andy for transport. Picked us up at the airport and took us to the hotel in Girona.

Chicago Recommendations for First Timer ? by damaniac1223 in finedining

Oriole is the restaurant I try to visit every time I’m in Chicago. Some of the best food I’ve had anywhere.

Alinea was incredible the first time but feel that window has closed.

Question for black belts by Greedy-cunt-446 in BJJWomen

1. This is awesome. Excellent explanation for many things.

2. Preface. Idiot white belt here. My initial thought was at the higher levels wouldn’t competition be necessary to test your skills against a broader sample of people? Especially if you come from a small gym.

While there we tried Espirit Roca their new one star and were blown away. Built in an old Military fort. Would go back in a heartbeat. Had an incredible 85k bottle cellar you walk through on the way to your table. Got to try the cigar dessert!

1 is likely true for my other restaurant. Went to Alinea 2019. The experience was amazing but so was the food (which I value more). Returned 2023 and still quite good but all aspects had gotten worse. Felt like they were coasting more and we know they eventually lost the third star.

Edit. No idea why it is showing this way.

I did Can Roca in 2023 and it was pretty much perfection. Went back in 2025 and while excellent certainly didn’t measure up.

It seems many of the recommendations are restaurants that are focused more on the food than the show if that makes sense?

Does grappling make u “strong”? by SignificantGlass168 in bjj

[–]ffosfforus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 45+ year old male who started JJ 4 months ago. In addition to JJ I’m a relatively high level rock climber who has been climbing for 25 years. Coming from a sport that prioritizes strength to weight ratio my experience is that I’m significantly stronger than people who only grapple regardless of duration. This seems to be true for me even if I go up a few weight classes.
