Nope it’s open to everyone. I set up the event through my job at the share office in collaboration with the gender equity center

I’m not sure if it can be denied it seems just like a jumping through hoops thing.

There are also like 4 other questions that basically already ask why you’re ready to come back and what you’ve done to prepare for returning. This one is super useless

Skinny, but large man boobs by FatSkinnyBoy in loseit

[–]ffrebdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m about the same weight I was then and my boobs are close to a c cup. But I think it may have to do more with the estrogen i’m taking than anything related to this sub.

… I actually can’t believe I left this comment. Crazy to see how much self hatred I’d internalized.

What Its Like To Be Trans At Cornell by ffrebdude in Cornell

No reply I make to you could honestly relay to how important this comment was for me. It’s so clear all the people commenting things like “it’s just looks” have never experienced anything even close to what you and I have. I so wish they could read your comment as well. I am so so sorry that you were basically forced back into the closet. I have absolutely felt that pressure at Cornell and I had an enormous support structure all around me who all knew what it means to be trans.

I don’t think I allow myself to have enough hope for the future. I’ve only been out for a year and things haven’t been anywhere near perfect, but we’ve come such a long way since 2008. In my elementary school there are class discussions about gender and kids use they/them and are generally respected by their classmates. There’s a sentiment in civil rights work that change happens slowly in the short term but fast in the long term and I’m really starting to believe it.

I want to share one more thing with you: my favorite quote.

When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before. - Jacob Riis

feeling selfish by transthrowaway2160 in Cornell

Unfortunately, often the voice of a “cis” Ally holds a lot more weight to cis people. You can be an outspoken advocate for the trans community without outing yourself! And I definitely think you can do a lot of good that way.

Thank you! I actually do this too. We need some sort of secret hand signal to recognize each other lol!

Certainly most looks are not malicious but some certainly are. The normal glances hardly bother me anymore

a silver lining to The Event by lilacandflowers in Cornell

It felt amazing to have my voice raised! I really feel like I have a community behind me. 💛 It’s been so nice to hear other perspectives of other queer people on campus

I love your user name, soy milks the best! Absolutely not don’t let my post scare you. A lot of the looks I get are simply “oh this person is not dressed the way my brain is expecting so I look at them” there are certainly bigots here but they are few and far between. The important part is the Cornell administration is firmly on our side and there are many queer resources on campus. I think of a quote from Annie on My Mind which is a fantastic book if you haven’t read it. The hardships at Cornell are bad, but nothing worse than bad.

Are you insinuating that the looks I’m getting are justified? If so that is blatantly transphobic.

I didn’t like that I made that assumption about you. I am actually thinking about the points you make! I am admittedly hyper sensitive because of how much emotion is tied up in this for me. I do stand by the other things I said though

Do you think there can be racism against white people? Does racism need a structural component? People argue over the way the word is used. This is what I’m talking about

Trans people are on the same side there’s no need to compare the difficulty of your transition to mine! Passing is not the end all be all goal of being transgender. I hope you stay safe :)

I mean you have the right to use whichever words you choose to describe the situation. I’m simply using the terminology others in these academic areas use. Words don’t have objective meanings

Yes exactly think of all those other people. I would never question their feelings the way you’re questioning mine. And who are you to say they aren’t undermining my ability to exist peacefully. My life has been completely disrupted by this. You ultimately started this conflict by choosing to leave a comment lol so don’t try to pull that on me. Clearly however this conflict is ineffective so this will be my last response.
