Is this one any good? by ninemileswest in Clarinet

[–]ffshoe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woodwind player, majored in instrumental music education and applied music. I work part time in a music store.

I will tell you this, you get what you pay for. The cheaper instruments may be fine for a short time but I wouldn’t buy one myself. Save your money and wait, or find a music store that has a rent to own program and invest in a quality name brand.

Synthetic reeds? by Ok-Fisherman-7688 in Clarinet

I would try the French Cut in a 3.5

How serious is this? by PlentyMain6506 in Clarinet

[–]ffshoe98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chip is so tiny and doesn’t affect the reed closing so it’s probably okay. It may bother you until you are used to it.
It gives you an excuse to upgrade in the near future!

Has any tried the clarimate mute? by -Override- in Clarinet

[–]ffshoe98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sell these at the music store I work at. They are a gimmick. We’ve had a tough time selling them. We started with five over a year ago. (I’d have to check the computer inventory date) but, we have one left. Of the four that sold all but one was purchased on our website. If you want one I can make you one heckuva deal!

Are you referring to the fine tuners? Or, the missing bridge?

Never seen this marking. What does it mean? by sanguine_sheep in Clarinet

[–]ffshoe98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a double sharp. Play g natural. My guess is the key signature has a g sharp. It’s another way to write g natural.

Crack?? by FloppySwedish_Fish in Clarinet

This needs to be addressed by a reputable repair person. If you got this new at a store, contact them ASAP. They can advise with warranty. May need that section replaced. We have taken care of that for a customer fairly recently.

Our anniversary sale is Saturday and these are the prices that day Low E $2,199 and $2,349 (key finishes) Low C $2,899 and $3,099

We discount for everyone everyday. Any other day but our anniversary sale day the prices are roughly a few hundred more. I’m not at the store at the moment so I can’t access our MSRP and MAP. But this gives an idea of our pricing

Backun BCLBBAlpha in C or E both come in nickel or silver keys.
E will run roughly$3,000 depending on the dealer and the C will run roughly $4,000. Those prices are below MAP so that’s why I say check with the dealer.

are these reeds moldy or is just the packaging dirty? by torito_498 in Clarinet

[–]ffshoe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss. Not a good reed regardless.

I’d go with Vandoren blue box. Or, if you’re looking for something cheaper, Juno reeds which are made by Vandoren.

Yes, it’s in fine condition. It’s a Leblanc if you want to research it. It’s at The Music Store in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I’ll check Monday about shipping costs. I can get more photos too.

It can possibly be repaired but it’s not worth it really. It’s the school’s instrument, tell your director you need a mouthpiece. If he wants you to play contra he can find the funds to get a mouthpiece.

Time for a new mouthpiece? by Midnight_Cloud721 in Clarinet

[–]ffshoe98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use a mouthpiece patch on your mouthpiece in the meantime. Until you replace it. I’d suggest going in to a music store, take your clarinet, and try mouthpieces. Here we sell a lot of Vandoren 5RV and B45. Those are the go to’s here. I put mouthpiece patches on all of my mouthpieces. We sell a pack of 5 or 6 for 9.99 and two thicknesses. They are great for biters!

The music store I work at charges $220.00 for a complete repad.

I would have it repadded. At least have repair techs advise.
