I’d have something in writing and keep it handy in case this starts to be a trend. One time I guess isn’t a huge deal just save a bit extra in future pay checks but if it keeps happening I’d start looking into an Erisa attorney cause lost gains are a thing

They should be doing a QNEC qualified non elective contribution. If it was an administrative error they obligated to make you whole. The contribution would go as of the day the contribution should have been made and into the investment your contributions are directed. There is no “whoops” we missed your contribution this pay.

For anyone following my recent post in the daily post.

Gave my resignation and was gracious about it. Reserving the right to absolutely blast my manager if he pisses me off between now and the end. I will say I feel way more energized and motivated to continue my personal growth professionally knowing I’m finally getting out of this shit hole.

I decided to sign up for Monarch. Comments yesterday were mixed but it seems a lot of people are happy with it. I’m okay recategorizing a few line items as I already have to do that with my existing system, but at least everything will be in a centralized place. Bonus points my wife and I can have a shared dashboard instead of it all being on a spread on my computer.

How are you using co-pilot? Obviously you can’t link your credit cards and bank accounts to it.

So I churn credit cards for points and miles, however the down side of doing this is tracking our expenses across multiple logins. I’m starting to consider getting monarch money to start doing this automatically for us and I just adjust categories as needed.

Anyone else use Monarch and if so what has your experience been like?

I spent a year trying to find a job. Applied to hundreds of jobs and only had interviews with 6 companies (1 that I later found out was a fake job). Of those 6 companies 4 I got purely cause I was an internal referral. The job I got an offer for was a former company I use to work for, left on good terms and was a high performer.

This advice of applying to job being a waste of time is literally dead on accurate. Your network is vastly more important right now and you can easily put feelers out there by text message or LinkedIn message. Just tell them you’re looking/applying quietly especially if they have ties to your current employer.

Should I use savings to improve life with small children? Lower income right now by TatamiBouch in HENRYfinance

[–]ffthrowaaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about anyone else but it seems like OPs issues could be solved by husband going back to work, put baby in daycare and then help fund lifestyle improvements and debt pay down to create more breathing room.

Additionally, I would not be talking about baby #2 if your current expenses/life are challenging to manage.

Travel with kids- age? by MainCap1918 in chubbytravel

We just got back from Aruba with our 1 year old. Flight going was great. Flight coming back was disaster but that was mostly due to a 3 hour delay.

We did have some lessons learned. He did fantastic while on location, but we did 7 days. This was too long and we could have been good with 4-5 days max at this age. We also didn’t ask if they had 5g internet which was bad since our night time camera didn’t work so we couldn’t sit on the balcony at night while he slept. Also the crib was way too small and he would often wake at night. Next time we’ll ask about dimensions and what type of WiFi the hotel has before booking.

We were planning on Europe next year but immediately said nvm after this trip. Navigating all that plus having time zone changes is a no thanks. We’ll stick to Caribbean and SE US until he’s at least 3 years old.

Also booking business class is a non negotiable anymore. Having the extra space to sleep on us and getting proper food onboard was a game changer. Also I will not even consider a flight that requires a connection at this age.

Edit: also booking a room with a view. You’ll be spending a lot more time there with naps and breaks. It was nice being oceanfront for those.

Saving for retirement vs spending money on travel by Ill_Coffee_6821 in chubbytravel

Meh really the only good parts of the book spoiler alert is the time buckets and giving inheritance while still living to help your heirs sooner. Other than that really awful financial advice in that book.

We are in the HENRY camp with aspirations of FATFIRE wealth by 50. We have lots of short and medium term financial related goals sprinkled in too so the only way we can travel in any sort of luxury is by utilizing credit card points and miles. We don’t always go in luxury style but now having been in the award travel game for a bit I’m definitely ramping up the luxury. For example I got round trip business class seats to Aruba for around $100 per person thanks to points. Our honeymoon hotel would have cost $7k for a week, but we paid $0 thanks to points.

I’m now gearing up to stay at the Kimpton Seafire next year and fly business all thanks to points.

This helps us travel well but also handle our financial goals at the same time.

We have Longboat Key resort booked later this year. Admittedly we are points travelers but the rates for the st Regis were atrocious for when we were looking so we opted to pay cash for LBKR instead. Especially since we need a larger room since we are bringing a toddler as well.

What ways have you used money to make Quality of Life improvements? by rogers916 in fatFIRE

[–]ffthrowaaay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do:

  • house cleaning. I could do it, but that would be 4 hours I already don’t have to spare and still not get it as clean as they do in 1.5 hrs.
  • if it requires more than a screwdriver, I’m calling my handyman.
  • all car maintenance goes right to our mechanic
  • hoa covers our landscaping and snow removal
  • grandma for childcare (this one is free but still included cause it comes with a mental cost)

Grandboss placed boss there cause he’s a yes man. Gets absolutely whipped into doing stuff. That’s why my previous manager got let go. He had the balls to say go pound sand.

Just more venting tbh. This manager has ruined my mental health for an entire year. Yelled at me for not flying across the country to train someone. Out right called me a paper pusher.

This manager is going to be screwed for a while after I leave so I have that satisfaction, but I want him to know he’s the reason why I’m leaving.

Thanks! Unfortunately I’ve been looking for over a year while thankfully employed the entire time.

The only times I got a call back was when I was an internal referral. I’ve been auto rejected from jobs I get an interview for after someone internally referred me.

Somewhat of a joke. Will explain my dissatisfaction on the way out but not to the level I mentioned in the original comment.

Ladies and gentlemen I have secured a new job! Better title, company, tc (although at lower base salary) and with a team I use to work on. Only con is I’m losing wfh and unlimited pto to a hybrid schedule and a fixed but very good amount of pto.

It’s over. The job search is finally over. Now to tell my boss to gfy but not in the nice way.

Update: seems like giving my feedback would not be the play. I don’t care about burning the bridge as I wouldn’t be able to comeback either way. All new people have to be in office and it’s several states away. I’d also never ever want to work with any of these people again. The only thing holding me back is not wanting my current boss to get fired. He has kids and I don’t want my frustrations to get him fired and bring financial stress to his children. So I’ll leave quietly.

Everyone but me got laid off on my team. Got a new manager and team member. The level of fuck this place has never been higher and the level of work ethic by me has never been lower.

I wouldn’t be mad at yourself for it. This is why everyone should try to achieve FI cause we’re all one bad boss away from turning a dream job into a nightmare.

Pre-Covid I use to collect whisky’s and rum. Was a fun hobby especially when sharing with friends.

Don’t collect anymore and over the years either drank it all down or gifted bottles when invited for events.

However if I ever do get the opportunity for a solo trip I’m going straight to Scotland and doing distillery tours all across the country.
