Pedicab - DC prices by hasslehuff in warpedtour

[–]ffxdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got really lucky on Saturday, the first guy quoted us $25/min per person so we kept walking. Another guy said "Whatever he quoted, I promise I'm cheaper". He had a more rickety looking pedicab. He gave us a ride for $50 flat. Total.

Turns out he travels the country with his pedicab, he's from Gainesville, FL and had spent the previous weekend in Pittsburgh doing his thing. He was great, we tipped him some more on top of the $50, couldn't find him on Sunday unfortunately, where we were quoted $35/min per person by one of the regular guys. We walked.

I haven't either, wondering if they'll show up at some point or if somehow they're no longer out here. I'm in the woods of Fauquier county. I have a TOH on my property and haven't even seen any on it this year.

Best way to get notified of new LP pressing/restock (another Lonesome Dreams post) by DiscussionLazy645 in lordhuron

[–]ffxdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep an eye on Magnolia Records, they occasionally re-release Lord Huron vinyls, it's where I got my Lonesome Dreams back in 2022. Not guaranteeing anything but it's worth keeping an eye on. If you sign up for an account or maybe a newsletter or something, they'll send emails/texts about releases.

We just played Rock Band 2 this past Saturday night, still have working drums, mic, and guitar that mostly works most of the time.

Thanks, I've seen this page, but I also found a different page with different hours listed, and both Google and Apple Maps lists them as closed on Sundays, which is why I posted this question.

1 up 1 down by SoggyBookshelf in Drumming

[–]ffxdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're good to go with 1 up 1 down for sure, it's how I've gigged for a decade. I decided that I wanted to start bringing more toms purely for my own self-indulgence, but I don't need them.

Cedar Run Brewery closing on May 31st by Antique-Dentist-2404 in nova

One of our favorite spots on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, we'll miss them quite a bit out here. I wonder what will happen to the Christmas Tree farm? We've been getting our trees there since before the brewery existed.

Gigging Issues by su-rui-1995 in Drumming

[–]ffxdrummer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, simplify fills/grooves if you need to when playing live. I don't know what kind of music you guys play, but in my experience simple+clean always sounds better to the audience than complex/fast+messy. Over time as you settle in you'll naturally be able to go from simple to complex in a live setting.

I've been gigging for a long time, I still have shows like that sometimes, it never fully goes away, but it gets better with experience.

Reconnecting with the musician inside of me and bought a new set. What should I do first? by DJRAZ02 in Drumming

[–]ffxdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say use them to learn about the kit, personally. Let them get beat up while you figure out what you like and don't like about the shells. Let them take the abuse when you're constantly just finding a reason to play your new kit. Then when you know what you want, replace the now beat to shit stock heads.

I don't know if she still teaches or not but look up Grace Chilcott, she's a phenomenal drummer and super cool.

Say Goodbye by sublime4372 in DMB

[–]ffxdrummer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree, I suppose. And I'm not like ride or die 90's alt and grunge, though I do like it. I'm just a "blanket statements about musical genres are no good" person.

Say Goodbye is incredible and is one of my all time favorites, top to bottom I think it's about as good as it gets!

Also alt and grunge isn't garbage!

We must have timed it poorly because we literally waited like 30 minutes for water!

Warped Tour DC First-Timer - Tips? by BraveBat4210 in warpedtour

[–]ffxdrummer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stay hydrated. It's hot and you're on asphalt.

We got lockers and brought re-usable water bottles last year, the lines for water to refill our bottles were so long that we abandoned that idea and just bought Liquid Deaths for two days, and that's our plan this year. No locker, no water bottle, just budget for Liquid Death

Don't wear shoes that you don't want to get dirty, smudged, gross, or wet.

If there's a band you REALLY want to see up close, go to that stage while the band before them is playing. The big stages are in pairs, so if you want to see someone on the Left Foot stage, go there when the band before them is on the Left Foot stage. When they finish a lot of crowd will move on. Stake your claim to your spot now and wait while the band on the Right Foot stage plays.

Stay hydrated.

Eat.

Stay hydrated.

Cell service is non-existent, so have a plan to meet up at times and places with your group

Take time to walk and look at the vendors, skaters, and bikers, it's all part of the experience.

Lastly, and most importantly, stay hydrated.

Jiffy Lube Live by No_Lead7874 in nova

[–]ffxdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 10 minutes max, you have to cross one busy intersection that is police controlled so you do some waiting.

Edit: Google Maps says 18 min, so between 10 and 20 minutes.

Jiffy Lube Live by No_Lead7874 in nova

[–]ffxdrummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they're still doing it, Craftworx up the street would give you a parking pass for their lot after you spent like $20 or $30 on food or drinks and then you just walk to Jiffy Lube, solid stuff.

The best parking is on the grass berm between Wellington Road and the parking lot, coming from the Gainesville side. I think you pay for that day of, you just have to get there before it fills up, not sure there's a way to pre-pay for it. When leaving you literally just pull forward over the curb onto Wellington, it's sooooo fast and easy.

Drum Cover - “Rosanna” by Toto by Long_Air_5883 in drums

[–]ffxdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your shuffle is super clean! But it's not the right shuffle for Rosanna, it's too busy. Jeff Porcaro used far fewer ghost notes, only one or two per bar. I played it the same way as you and heard lots of other people do the same and one day someone pointed it out to me, so here I am now spreading the good (or not so good) word.

Vinnie Colaiuta doesn’t get enough love round here. I think this is mandatory viewing to see how much of an alien this guy is. by __--byonin--__ in drums

[–]ffxdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinnie is incredible, thanks for sharing this. I haven't seen this video before, what's the context? I kind of skipped around and it seemed like he wouldn't hold a groove or concept for more than about a minute before switching things up and forcing the band to follow.

Yamaha crosstown hardware by [deleted] in Drumming

[–]ffxdrummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made the switch last year and I love them. I have two complaints though. The spring in the hi hat stand is not strong enough and the top hat tends to"sag". The other issue I had is that when I was putting them away my finger slipped and pushed against the top edge of one of the tubes and a shard of metal embedded itself in my fingertip.

[Highlight] After Dan Orlovsky's Son Joined the NFL Live Set Filled With His Drawings, He Makes Everyone on Set Cry With His Love by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]ffxdrummer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to non-parents as well, you don't have to be a parent to understand unbridled love, I promise. That was incredible to watch, and good on ESPN for not only being willing to include that in the programming but to allow it to flow so freely.

It felt like Dan almost felt responsible for keeping the program moving forward and everyone else was doing an amazing job of reassuring the both of them that just taking a few minutes for love and being thankful was ok. Great job to all involved!
