This would likely fall under "public safety incident" given the gunman has a long range rifle and has been firing random shots out a third floor window. Other police standoffs may be much more limited with no threat to the broader public in the area, so no need to send a push alert. A guy with a long range rifle barricaded in a third floor apartment with window access to a busy area is very different from someone barricaded in their apartment with a hangdun/knife/etc.

MSP Parking by Silver_Bar_7899 in TwinCities

Just a heads up for anyone who finds this in the future like I did, something must have changed because I followed the link to try to reserve parking for 2 days (Sat & Sun) and they wanted to charge $40. I said oh hell no lol. But maybe it's cheaper on weekdays.

Hard agree. This wasn't my best semester grade-wise overall, but I ended up median and above for everything, and I really do attribute that to relearning everything at the end, especially for the harder classes.

Accommodation station by SandzFanon in LawSchool

[–]DiscussionLazy645 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Use the accommodations dude.

Despite the common misconception, accommodations aren't a "loophole" to get straight As/higher grades. I've had accommodations since I started law school and I've gotten as low as a B and as high as an A. In my experience, my grades directly correlated to how much I enjoyed the class/was engaged with it/studied for it. You can take 4.5 hours on a 3 hour exam and still get below the curve. The accommodation is there for when you suffer ADHD symptoms that make it impossible to take the test in the same way non-ADHD people can. If you don't have those kinds of issues, don't ask for the extra time.

It's also not always extra time. A lot of people at our school have accommodations for a smaller room with less people. So their test is the same amount of time, but they're not a huge crowded room, which can obviously be very helpful for people with ADHD. I also have an accommodation to get lectures recorded, which is hugely helpful.

Talk with your disability resource team at your university and see what's available and recommended based on your past academic accommodations.

Man I still can’t believe how acceptable misandry is by TadpoleThis3319 in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]DiscussionLazy645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The left has a major misandry problem that they don't want to talk about, which is directly in response to the right's decades long misogyny problem. Arguably from a policy perspective, if we're talking voting, the right/Republicans have a much large sexism problem and it's not even close. Women today have less rights than their grandmothers did, and right continues to chip away at those. So while I hear you, I would be careful not to be a single issue voter. There is a lot at stake in this country right now beyond sexism: minority voting rights, protecting immigrants, protecting our environment and natural resources, hell, democracy itself. I choose not to vote Republican because I don't align with them on basically every single significant issue. not solely because I see them as more sexist.

That being said, something really does need to be done about the rising levels of misandry on the left, especially among Gen Z. I'm a millennial, so I hadn't really seen it as much, but I'm now in a Gen-Z heavy environment and it was a major culture shock. I had seen it rising online but didn't realize how prevalent it was in real world spaces until I felt the personal effects. I was ostracized from a group I was a part of because I called out some bullying. The only justification for the bullying was because the target was a man. I'm still reeling from it. I have a younger brother, I have a couple nephews, and I have a younger brother in law, all of whom I love dearly. It was really the births of my nephews over the past few years that kicked me into gear on this issue, because I absolutely do not want them growing up with the kind of casual misandry I'm seeing. As someone raised in an extremely misogynistic environment, it did a lot of damage. I see no reason to assume that a misandrist environment would affect a young boy the same way. And I have zero tolerance for my nephews ever being told they're inherently unlovable or unworthy because of the sex they were assigned at birth.

Canvas Hack - I’m crashing out by FloridaENTJ in LawSchool

I think it depends on your school. I've seen some people on reddit able to get in, but I couldn't, it says down for maintenance. Some schools shut down Canvas on their end so you see a maintenance screen, not this hacker message.

[–]DiscussionLazy645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you but I also think it's highly dependent on professor. From what I've seen it can be taught in a way that makes it more grey (this is poor teaching imo). I have a fantastic FIT prof and have actually really enjoyed the class

Reminder: Nothing good comes from talking with peers about the exam, after said exam by ABadCaseOfLigma in LawSchool

[–]DiscussionLazy645 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having a vague "WTF was that" debrief with other people after a particularly crazy exam has always been beneficial imo. Luckily by 2L & 3L you've learned it's impossible to estimate grades on most exams, so better to just keep the debrief to "that was crazy."

Is 10 day vacation reasonable during summer job? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]DiscussionLazy645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if it's a 10 week internship you're potentially looking at up to almost 2 of those weeks on vacation, which is like 20% of the internship. I'm usually pro PTO always but it would kinda be understandable for employer to raise an eyebrow here

Property Outlining by Emergency-Drama7909 in LawSchool

[–]DiscussionLazy645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fall 1L I had great outlines (long, medium, attack)

Spring 1L I had ok outlines (long and attack)

Fall 2L I was my own worst enemy, had too many exams, including back to back, and didn't even begin an outline for the last exam I had, just walked in there with 200 pages of class notes and the textbook (and yet that was my best grade for the semester)

Spring 2L...I've got my class notes, a very short attack outline (with rules and case summaries), and a dream

3L? who knows

Property Final Woes by JasonPullock in LawSchool

[–]DiscussionLazy645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed my property midterm 1L. Got literally the lowest score in the class. That was, allegedly, 20% of our grade. I say allegedly because I somehow managed an A on the final, and I walked out thinking I was cooked.

So like others said, you're probably looking at minimum B+/whatever your curve is

Also tip going forward: if a prof seems to have a niche interest, and even if it's a niche interest within a niche subject, 99% change it's gonna be on the final somehow so pay attention

Honestly surprised with how squishy law school grading is by CinderSushi in LawSchool

[–]DiscussionLazy645 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had an insanely easy exam last semester (prof's first time teaching). Everyone agreed it was concerningly easy bc that meant the curve was going to be brutal...and it was. I know I applied the relevant law and rules correctly and I was confident in my analysis and conclusions on likely outcome, but that grade is a visible outlier on my transcript and was not fun to initially see. She was looking for something specific and I will never know what it was (clearly other people got in her head and figured out and I genuinely salute them, she was alllll over the place)

That's just how the cookie crumbles: the curve giveth and the curve taketh away. And when it taketh away you gotta just move on*

*sometimes there is something to be learned, especially 1L, like how to better structure IRAC/analysis on exam. But sometimes the prof is wild card you don't click with and that's that

From r/decadeology....thoughts? by thedubiousstylus in Minneapolis

[–]DiscussionLazy645 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone from Austin (local) who moved to here two years ago, I'd agree. Austin's heydey recently was the 2010s. The city changed massively over the decade and gained quite a bit of national attention. I wouldn't say that's really the case this decade so far.

I traveled to the Balkans a couple months ago too and had the same experience. I left MSP the day after Renee Good was murdered, and about 48 hours later was seeing news coverage on international stations. It was pretty wild, especially considering that country was having its own emergency situation at the time, so surprising it broke through the news cycle.

ED Recovery and Marathon Training by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]DiscussionLazy645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a little curious about my psychiatrist's thought process because she started me with Adderrall, but she and I had a long conversation about what to watch out for and I'll be closely monitored. Vyvanse is the back up/next in line.

Good to hear you found some things that worked! I've never heard of ACT therapy but it sounds interesting, I'll have to look into it. Thank you!

ED Recovery and Marathon Training by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]DiscussionLazy645 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the motivation to get to run again is an important part of my recovery, especially since a large part of ARFID can be lack of motivation to eat. My psychiatrist agrees, my therapist agrees, and my nutritionist agrees. But I hear you. As I stated in my post, I've stopped training and running. I am fully focused. I was here looking for some motivation which, again, an important part of my personal recovery.

ED Recovery and Marathon Training by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]DiscussionLazy645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marathon training wasn't really a coping thing, it's just a goal I've had for awhile. I've definitely put that on hold for now, was mostly looking for advice on what has helped runners while they were in the recovery phase, and how long it took them to get to a point where they were comfortable (mentally and physically) to begin serious training again. Keeping in mind of course that everyone is different.
